Playwrights Foundation and the National Center for New Plays at Stanford present their last rough reading of the 2016 Rough Reading Series, Kirk at the San Francisco Airport Hyatt by Krista Knight on May 16th & 17th.

The reading of Kirk at the San Francisco Airport Hyatt by Krista Knight on Monday, May 16 - 7:30 pm is at Roble Hall, Stanford University and Tuesday, May 17 - 2:00 pm is at the Custom Made Theatre in San Francisco, 533 Sutter Street, San Francisco, CA 94102. South Bay native Krista Knight's play Kirk at the San Francisco Airport Hyatt was one of the top finalists for this summers upcoming Bay Area Playwrights Festival. A play about a family coming to grips with the aftermath of their father's stroke at the age of 45. Krista's handicap father Kirk lives in the San Francisco Airport Hyatt with his Ethiopian nurse/girlfriend. He can't afford to live in a hotel but he's had a theory for the last 31 years that he is not going to live much longer. The catch is that he continues to. He lives every day, paralyzed and joyous, like he is going to die tomorrow. At his behest, IKrista is writing a play in which her father is giving the audience a tour on his last night in the hotel. A story of memory, of loss and of living in the moment.

Krista Knight's work includes PRIMAL PLAY (New Georges, Playwrights Center of MN), SALAMANDER LEVIATHAN (Joe's Pub, Ars Nova, Fingerlakes Musical Theatre Festival, Inkwell, KCACTF Musical Theatre Award from the Kennedy Center), CLEMENTINE AND THE CYBER DUCKS (Ontological Hysteric Incubator, Hangar Theatre, Inkwell), PHANTOM BAND (The Claque, Walden Theatre, Voice and Vision, Dixon Place), ANAEROBIC RESPIRATION (Playwrights Center of SF, NYC Fringe Festival), and UN-HINGED (Wily West, Playhouse Creatures, WordBRIDGE), among others. Commissions include YMTC with Dave Malloy, The Berkeley Rep School of Theatre, Case Western Reserve University Biomedical Engineering Department, The Assembly, Live Girls!, and Class Act. Krista has been in Residence at La Napoule Art Foundation, UCROSS, Yaddo, and MacDowell.

BA: Brown University. MA: Performance Studies from NYU. MFA Playwriting: UC San Diego. Page 73 Playwriting Fellow (2007). Shank Playwriting Fellow at the Vineyard Theatre (2011-2012). Alum of Youngblood, TerraNova Groundbreakers, Page 73 Interstate 73, and Civilians R&D Lab, and member of New Georges JAM. Krista teaches playwriting, screenwriting, and digital storytelling at SUNY Oswego.

Rough Readings bring playwrights and theatergoers together in an intimate setting to showcase work that is still at a very early stage of development, giving audiences a rare opportunity to engage directly with the artistic process of bringing a play to life. The Rough Reading Series is presented in partnership with the National Center for New Plays at Stanford, a producing partner of the National New Play Network, helping to foster a thriving relationship between Stanford University and the greater San Francisco theater scene.

The Readings are open to the public and are always pay-what-you-can. Monday and Sunday readings take place at Roble Hall on the Stanford University campus, and Tuesday and Saturday readings are held at Custom Made Theatre in San Francisco.

Playwrights Foundation (PF) was founded in 1976, and is today widely recognized as one of the top play development labs in the U.S. Our artistic purpose is to support and champion contemporary playwrights in the creation of new works to sustain theater as a vital, dynamic art form. PF seeks to identify exceptional emerging artists and give them space and time to explore new theatrical ideas and forms in an environment free from the pressures of the marketplace. By providing a creative home for largely unknown, exceptional local and national playwrights, and committing to accelerating their careers, PF fulfills an essential need in the cultural ecology of the Bay Area. In so doing, we have earned a national reputation for introducing a truly diverse range of singular, boundary-breaking new voices to the American stage, challenging assumptions about subject matter and artistic complexity. The only development lab of its size and scope on the West Coast, PF is widely recognized for its programmatic excellence. Our programs include the Bay Area Playwrights Festival; the Resident Playwrights Initiative; and the Producing Partnership Initiative, which includes our monthly Rough Readings Series.
