Local Playwright's DINNER WITH MARLENE Premieres at Lamb's Players Theatre Today

Anne-Charlotte Hanes Harvey, local San Diego playwright has the World-Premiere of her original play DINNER WITH MARLENE produced at Lamb's Players Theatre, Coronado beginning today, April 22nd and continuing through May 29th.

Harvey shared: "DINNER WITH MARLENE is based on my father's dinner with Marlene Dietrich in Paris in October 1938. He told me about it when he was 90, I made a few notes and lost them. When I found them after his death, it seemed a sign that I should reconstruct that dinner to see my father as a young man of 27 against the storm clouds gathering in Europe at that time. I cannot think of a theatre better suited than Lamb's to create the intimate feel, the theatrical and musical magic of the celebrity guests, and the desperation, courage and humanity hiding behind the carefree elegant façade."

Producing Artistic Director and Director of the production, Robert Smyth added, "This piece caught my attention upon very first read. I love history - and Anne-Charlotte's fascinating family connection to this historic moment in time gave her a passionate perspective that infuses this story. I am finalizing casting, and look forward to announcing our cast very soon."

Lamb's Players Theatre's production of DINNER WITH MARLENE, directed by Robert Smyth, runs in Coronado at 1142 Orange Avenue from April 22nd - May 29th, 2016. Select Wed at 2pm, Tues - Thur @ 7:30, Fri @ 8pm, Sat @ 4pm & 8pm, Sun @ 2pm. About Anne-Charlotte Hanes Harvey 0 Born in Sweden and educated in Sweden and the U.S., Harvey is Professor Emerita of the School of Theatre, Television and Film at San Diego State University. After years as a theatre educator and practitioner, specializing in translating and dramaturging the plays of Ibsen and Strindberg for productions ranging from academic theatre to South Coast Rep in Costa Mesa to Broadway, Anne-Charlotte is now also writing original plays.

Other credits include Fade to White (about the Swedish polar explorer S. A. Andrée), presented 2009 at the Polar Center in Gränna, Sweden; Hidden (a Jewish girl is rescued from the Nazis by Belgian nuns); Mrs. L (Mary Todd Lincoln's last hour in the White House) and Terror Incognita (the Australasian Antarctic expedition 1911-14). She is currently at work on Soft Balls, a tribute to senior softball in California today.

Local professional credits include Ghosts and Hedda Gabler (June 2016) at North Coast Rep and A Doll's House at the Old Globe, in addition to numerous Strindberg plays for TASSLA, Los Angeles. Scholarly papers include a recent invitational paper on Strindberg translation for the stage at the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities in Stockholm and one on dramaturging Strindberg in the US at the XVIII International Strindberg Conference.
