Ocean State Theatre Company Announces Auditions for 2011 Summer Season

Ocean State Theatre Company announces Open Adult and Performance Intern Auditions for its 2011 Summer Season at Theatre By The Sea. Performers must be available for all rehearsal and performance dates. Interns must be currently enrolled in college and available for all four productions. Local talent is strongly encouraged to audition. All roles are open for the following productions:

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
Daytime rehearsals May 17 - May 31; day and evening rehearsals/performances June 1 - June 19
*Note: All roles must be very strong singers who can sing parts and move well.
Looking for adult actors to play middle school students. There is no chorus in this show.
Also looking to cast stand-bys and understudies.

Man of La Mancha
Daytime rehearsals June 7 - June 21; day and evening rehearsals/performances June 22 - July 16
*Note: All roles require very strong singers. Ensemble must be very strong singers, actors and dancers.
SeverAl Smaller roles will be cast from the ensemble.

Hairspray
Daytime rehearsals July 5 - July 19; day and evening rehearsals/performances July 20 - August 13
*Note: Ensemble consists of both Caucasian and African-American performers who should be
very strong dancers who can execute choreography. All must sing as well.
SeverAl Smaller roles will be cast from the ensemble.

The Drowsy Chaperone
Daytime rehearsals August 2 - August 16; day and evening rehearsals/performances August 17 - Sept. 4
*Note: All roles must be very strong singers, actors and dancers. SeverAl Smaller roles
will be cast from the ensemble. Also looking to cast stand-bys and understudies.

The schedule for Saturday, March 12, 2011, will be as follows:

9 am-11 am and 2-4 pm Singing/Acting Auditions; 11 am and 4 pm Dancing Auditions; (1 - 2 pm lunch)

Callbacks, if necessary, will be held on Sunday, March 13 at URI and
Thursday, March 17 and Friday, March 18 in New York City.

Auditions will be held at:

University of Rhode Island (URI)
Fine Arts Building, Studio G
Rt. 138 and Upper College Road
Kingston, RI 02881

Those auditioning should bring their headshot or a recent photo and resume (if available) stapled together, and be prepared to sing AND dance. Please prepare and bring sheet music for 16 bars of an up-tempo and 16 bars of a ballad. (Note that there may only be time to perform one selection.) Pianist provided. No a cappella, tape recorders or CD players accepted. No appointments necessary (members of Actors' Equity should call (401) 782-3800 x15 beginning March 7, for an appointment time.) Doors open at 8:30 am.

PLEASE NOTE: These auditions are for adults only (16 years and older).

The theatre is required to hire a minimum of five members of Actors Equity Association for
Man of La Mancha and Hairspray and three members for ...Spelling Bee and Drowsy Chaperone.

Ocean State Theatre Company announces Equity Performer Auditions (Principal/Chorus) by appointment on Saturday, March 12, 2011 for its 2011 Summer Season at Theatre By The Sea. Performers must be available for all rehearsal and performance dates. There are three Equity Principal contracts available for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and The Drowsy Chaperone and three Equity Principal contracts and two Equity Chorus contracts available for Man of La Mancha and Hairspray. All roles are currently open for the following productions:

Equity singers/actors may call (401) 782-3800 x15 Monday-Friday ONLY after March 7, 2011 to make an appointment. No appointment necessary for dance audition.

Please bring a picture and resume stapled together. Singers/Actors should prepare one brief up-tempo song and one brief ballad. Pianist provided. Performers may be asked to attend a dance call after all have sung; bring appropriate dancewear, including character shoes. Dancers should be warmed up and ready to dance when the call begins. Wear appropriate dancewear and have ballet and character shoes. Performers may be asked to stay and sing after all have danced. Callbacks, if necessary, will be held on Sunday, March 13 at URI and
Thursday, March 17 and Friday, March 18 in New York City.
