Ocean State Theatre Company (OSTC), the not-for-profit producing entity at Theatre By The Sea has announced the 2012 Summer Schedule. In celebration of their fifth full season of producing musicals at the historic landmark, OSTC has planned four must-see musicals.

The season will open on June 1 (with preview performances on May 30 and 31) with Forever Plaid, one of the most popular and successful musicals in recent memory. This deliciously goofy revue centers on four young, eager male singers killed in a car crash in the 1950s on the way to their first big concert. Miraculously they are revived for the posthumous chance to fulfill their dreams and perform the show that never was. The "Plaids" sing great nostalgic pop hits of the ‘50s in the closest of harmony, squabble boyishly over the smallest intonations, and execute charmingly outlandish choreography with over-zealous precision. Songs include "Heart and Soul," "Three Coins in a Fountain," "16 Tons," and many others.

Forever Plaid will be presented from May 30-June 17.

The season continues with the Tony® Award-winning classic, The Sound of Music. Set in Austria in 1938, this Rodgers and Hammerstein musical follows the adventures of a high-spirited young novice who is ill-fitted for the life of the convent. Sent to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval officer, Maria wins their hearts (and his) with her exuberant love of life. The family's attempt to escape from the Nazis is one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented onstage. This beloved family classic features a glorious score including "My Favorite Things," "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," and "The Sound of Music."

The Sound of Music will be presented from June 20 - July 14.

OSTC is excited to present the New England Premiere of 9 to 5: The Musical! Based on the popular movie, this hilarious tale tells the story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era. Three unlikely friends and co-workers conspire to take control of their company and learn there's nothing they can't do -- even in a man's world. Featuring a score written by music legend Dolly Parton, this musical is outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic. 9 to 5: The Musical is about teaming up and taking care of business... it's about getting credit and getting even... it's about "workin' 9 to 5!"

9 to 5: The Musical will be presented from July 18 - August 11.

Rounding out the season beginning on August 17 (with preview performances on August 15 and 16) is the current Broadway sensation How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. From the authors of Guys and Dolls comes one of the most delightfully irreverent musicals of all time. A satire of big business and all it holds sacred, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying follows the rise of J. Pierrepont Finch, who uses a little handbook called "How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying" to climb the corporate ladder from lowly window washer to high-powered executive, tackling such familiar but potent dangers as the aggressively compliant "company man," the boss' whiny, nepotistic nephew, the office party, backstabbing co-workers, caffeine addiction, and, of course, true love.

How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying will be presented from August 15 - September 2.

Previews for all productions are scheduled for Wednesday at 8:00pm and Thursday at 2:00 and 8:00pm. Opening weekend performances will be held on Friday at 8:00pm, Saturday at 4:30 and 8:30pm and Sunday at 3:00 and 8:00pm. All other performances will be held Tuesday through Friday evenings at 8:00pm, Thursdays at 2:00pm, Saturdays at 4:30 and 8:30pm and Sundays at 5:00pm.
