LOCAL PALM SPRINGS CABARET SINGERS COME TOGETHER FOR A TRIBUTE TO SONGWRITER JACK LAWRENCE. “They All Sang My Songs – A Musical Tribute to the Composer/Lyricist Jack Lawrence,” Friday April 14 and Saturday April 15, 2017 in Palm Springs. Five cabaret singers, well known and beloved by audiences here in the desert, are coming together to pay tribute to one of the most prolific, but unknown to many people, contributors to the American Songbook, Jack Lawrence. Featured in the show are Darci Daniels, Keisha-D, Charles Herrera, and Phillip Moore, with Bill Lohnes as Jack Lawrence. Musical direction is by Charles Creasy. Jack Lawrence was a prolific composer and lyricist during the big band era of the 30’s to the 50’s. Lawrence wrote the lyrics for "Tenderly", Rosemary Clooney's trademark song, as well as the English language lyric to "Beyond the Sea" (based on Charles Trenet's French language song "La Mer"), the signature song of Bobby Darin. One of his first major songs was "Yes, My Darling Daughter", introduced by Dinah Shore on Eddie Cantor's radio program. The song was Shore's first record. His song, "If I Didn't Care", introduced the world to The Ink Spots. And, although Frank Sinatra was already a well-known big band singer, Lawrence's "All or Nothing at All" was Sinatra's first solo hit with the Harry James orchestra. Together with Richard Myers, Lawrence wrote "Hold My Hand", which was featured in the film “Susan Slept Here” (with Debbie Reynolds) and nominated for the 1954 Academy Award for Best Song. The show will run for two performances only at the Pearl McManus Theatre at the Palm Springs Women’s Club, 314 S. Cahuilla Road in Palm Springs. Performance dates at Friday April 14 and Saturday April 15 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the show are $20 and can be purchased at the door, which opens at 7:00 p.m., or online at theyallsangmysongs.brownpapertickets.com.
