Milagro Theatre Receives $40,250 in Grants

Miracle Theatre Group aka Milagro, the Northwest's premier Latino arts and culture organization, was awarded $40,250 in grants in April and May 2016 for General Operating support and to fund Milagro's artistic programming, arts education and community engagement efforts.

On April 8, 2016, The Thorndike Family Rogue Valley Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation awarded Milagro with a $750 grant to support a Healthy Relationships residency program in conjunction with the tour of Teatro Milagro's production of Broken Promises in Medford, Oregon.

On May 17, 2016, The Kinsman Foundation awarded Milagro a grant of $17,500 in support of its 33rd season for 2016-17. Milagro has a strong history of serving its large and diverse community with unique, culturally-specific programming. The organization has increased its investment in artistic creation; strengthened the governance and fundraising capacity of its board of directors; revamped its fundraising, financial and information management systems to industry standards; and expanded its endeavors in local arts education.

The Kinsman Foundation is a private foundation established in 1983 and built on the philanthropy of John and Elizabeth T. Kinsman of Milwaukie, Oregon. The Foundation supports small independent organizations staffed in part by volunteers and that are built on an individual's commitment to a hope, vision, or dream. On May 26, 2016, The Regional Arts & Culture Council awarded a $5,000 Arts Equity Grant to support the programming of The Latino Artists eXchange / El Intercambio de Artistas Latinos (LAX IdeAL). Milagro has been a long-time supporter of LAX IdeAL and will serve as its fiscal sponsor. With this award, LAX will continue to enhance career opportunities and build the presence of Latino artists working in Oregon.

The Regional Arts & Culture Council's Arts Equity Grant program (formerly the Expanding Cultural Access Grant program) provides financial support to organizations in Multnomah County and the City of Portland conducting arts and culture projects and programming for communities of color, immigrants, refugees, underserved neighborhoods, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ communities, and other under-represented communities.

On May 27, 2016, The Shubert Foundation awarded Milagro a grant in the amount of $15,000 for general operating support. This extraordinary grant will allow Milagro to maintain its home production schedule and touring programs, advance experimental programming, better serve the people of Oregon, and strategically plan for the future of the organization during its 33rd Season.The Shubert Foundation is dedicated to sustaining and advancing the live performing arts in the United States, with a particular emphasis on theatre and a secondary focus on dance. It was established in 1945 by Lee and J.J. Shubert in memory of their brother Sam, and is the sole shareholder of The Shubert Organization, Inc., which currently owns/operates 21 theatres: 17 on Broadway, one Off-Broadway theatre (The Little Shubert), and one each in Boston and Philadelphia. On May 27, 2016, The Hillsboro Arts & Culture Council awarded Milagro a Community Arts & Culture grant in the amount of $2,000 to present its newest play for middle schools, Mijita Fridita, at Evergreen Middle School, accompanied by a bilingual arts residency. The mission of the Hillsboro Arts & Culture Council, a division of the Hillsboro Parks & Recreation Department, is to promote and support the growth of arts and culture as assets for a vital, prosperous and livable community. The Community Arts and Culture Grant Program provides financial support for organizations providing arts and cultural experiences to the Greater Hillsboro Community.
