Cancer Council is grateful to have been the official charity partner for the musical Dirty Dancing -- The Classic Story On Stage throughout the show's Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide seasons.

Cancer Council is delighted to announce that Dirty Dancing has raised over $120,000 for Cancer Council's pink campaign though generous donations made by audience members via a special charity dress rehearsal performance and bucket collections at other performances.

The support of these generous patrons helps to ensure that Cancer Councils across Australia can continue to support women with breast and gynaecological cancers.

Every year in October, Australians come together to show their support for Cancer Council's Pink Ribbon fundraising events including Cancer Council's Girls' Night In. Pink Ribbon supports the 18,715 women who will be diagnosed with breast or a gynaecological cancer this year. This year, Cancer Council aims to raise $7.2 million for its work across every area of women's cancers including research, prevention, support and advocacy.

Producer John Frost said on behalf of his co-producers, "I am thrilled that we have raised over $120,000 for the Cancer Council, the official charity for the national tour of Dirty Dancing -- The Classic Story On Stage. I'd like to thank patrons who have bought tickets to our charity dress rehearsal and to other audiences who have donated through our bucket collection, enabling us to reach this terrific result for a very important charity. With the tour closing this Sunday after an extraordinary year, I'd like to thank the cast and crew of Dirty Dancing who have supported this worthy cause for the entire tour."

Cancer Council Australia CEO, Professor Sanchia Aranda, said, "On behalf of Cancer Council Australia I would like to sincerely thank the cast and crew of Dirty Dancing and their audiences for all of their efforts to raise these vital funds to help Australians affected by breast and gynaecological cancers."
