Tony Award winner Lemon Andersen is the subject of the new documentary film, LEMON, which recently closed the 13th edition of the New York International Latino Film Festival. The poet/performer sat down with Univision News recently to speak about his film, writing idols, and what makes a good poet. Check out the video below.

Lemon, a new documentary about the acclaimed New York poet/playwright Lemon Andersen, will have its broadcast premiere on PBS as part of Latino Public Broadcasting's arts and culture series VOCES on Friday, October 19, 2012 from 10:00-11:00 p.m. ET (check local listings), in conjunction with Hispanic Heritage Month. Produced and directed by Laura Brownson and Beth Levison, Lemon is a Russell Simmons presentation in association with Impact Partners.

Today in 2008, Passing Strange closed at the Belasco Theatre, where it ran for 165 performances. Passing Strange is a rock musical about a young African American's artistic journey of self-discovery in Europe, drawing on heavy elements of existentialism, metafictional comedy, and the Künstlerroman. The musical's lyrics and book are by Stew with music and orchestrations by Heidi Rodewald and Stew. It was created in collaboration with director Annie Dorsen. The musical was developed at the Sundance Institute Theatre Lab in 2004 and 2005, one of the only works there ever to be invited back for a second round of development. It had productions in Berkeley, California and Off-Broadway before opening on Broadway in 2008, garnering strong reviews and several awards. Spike Lee filmed the musical on Broadway as a documentary, premiering the film in 2009.

Yesterday, Mike Tyson and Spike Lee announced that Tyson's Vegas act, UNDISPUTED TRUTH is heading to Broadway. The show will be directed by Lee and will play Broadway's Longacre Theatre for six performances only, July 31-August 5. A.R.T. American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) opens its 2011-12 season with The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, by George Gershwin, DuBose and Dorothy Heyward, and Ira Gershwin. The adaptation by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks and Obie Award-winning composer Diedre L. Murray, directed by A.R.T. Artistic Director Diane Paulus, with choreography by Ronald K. Brown, begins previews on August 17 and opens for the reviewing press on August 31 at 7pm. Performances are at the Loeb Drama Center, 64 Brattle Street, Cambridge. Tickets for preview performances are currently on sale, remaining tickets for the run go on sale on July 12. Broadway Beat brings you an interview with Colman Domingo and Forrest McClendon, Best Featured Actor in a Musical nominees for The Scottsboro Boys. Prior to The Scottsboro Boys, Domingo starred starred as Mister Franklin/Venus of Berlin in Passing Strange, for which received an Obie Award. He reprised his roles in the film version of Passing Strange directed by Spike Lee, which made its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2009. In 2010, Domingo's self-penned play 'A Boy and His Soul' premiered Off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theater, for which he won a GLAAD and a Lucille Lortel Award and was nominated for a Drama Desk Award and a Drama League Award. He has also starred as Billy Flynn in Chicago. McClendon, who made his Broadway debut in The Scottsboro Boys, has appeared off-Broadway in Faith Journey. He also appeared as CC White in a 2005 Prince Music Theatre revival of Dreamgirls: The Musical in Philadelphia. His most recent theatrical project is a regional production of Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris at the Two Rivers Theatre in Red Bank, New Jersey.

Carpio has officially assumed the role of 'Arachne' in SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark, replacing Natalie Mendoza who departed the production last week after suffering a concussion at an early preview. Directed by Julie Taymor and featuring a book by Julie Taymor and Glen Berger, and new music and lyrics by U2's Bono and The Edge, SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark is now in previews at Broadway's Foxwoods Theatre (213 West 42nd Street).
