Alumnae Theatre Kicks Off First Annual FireWorks Series, Now thru Dec 1

The Alumnae Theatre Company is proud to present the first annual FireWorks Series. This is a brand new effort by the Company to showcase its homegrown talent in a further development beyond the very popular New Ideas Festival. Three full-length plays developed in-house will be staged in the Alumnae Studio Theatre from today, November 13 to December 1, 2013, and supporting events will allow audience members to engage with the dramaturgical process and intellectual themes.

Sundance Institute Selects Artists for 2014 Playwrights Retreat at Ucross Foundation

Sundance Institute today announced the seven artists selected for its 2014 Playwrights Retreat at Ucross Foundation. The 15th annual writing colony at the 20,000-acre working cattle ranch outside of Sheridan, WY takes place February 3-21. Under the supervision of Artistic Director Philip Himberg and Producing Director Christopher Hibma, the Playwrights Retreat is made possible through the generosity of Ucross Foundation.

Urban Stages to Remount HONKY, 10/22-11/17

After a wildly successful extended run last spring, Urban Stages will remount their production of Greg Kalleres' biting comedy HONKY. Rights and Royalties Controversy Affects BroadwayWorld Houston Awards

Shortly after it was announced that nominations were open for the 2013 BroadwayWorld Houston Regional Awards, BroadwayWorld received an anonymous e-mail asking that Stage Door, Inc., a community theater in Pasadena, be disqualified from winning awards if they garnered enough votes. With my involvement in Houston's close-knit and supportive theatre community, such a request struck me as uncharacteristically odd.

Ford's Theatre Announces Shutdown Update, New LARAMIE PROJECT Schedule; Sets Vigil for 10/11

Due to the government shutdown, Ford's Theatre Society (FTS) has relocated several performances of 'The Laramie Project' to First Congregational United Church of Christ (945 G Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001) between October 9 and 15, 2013. The 2 p.m. October 13 performance of 'The Laramie Project' has been cancelled. Patrons who had purchased tickets to performances October 9 through 15 at Ford's Theatre will be contacted by their point of purchase to exchange into performances at the church. All remaining tickets for performances at the First Congregational United Church of Christ are $25.

Three Day Hangover gets all romantic with R+J: Star-Cross'd Death Match, their next Shakespeare drinking theatrical extravaganza performed in a bar with audience participation and booze. Lori Wolter Hudson directs a cast of ten, including Nick Mills* (The Unavoidable Disappearance of Tom Durnin, The Steadfast) as Romeo and Suzy Jane Hunt* (Broadway's Dead Accounts, rogerandtom) as Juliet, with Matt Bradley*, Garrett Deagon, Grace Gealey*, David Hudson*, Paul Kite*, Jenna Panther*, Brendan Spieth*, and Titus Tompkins*.
