The 52nd Street Project makes a difference in the lives of Hell's Kitchen (Clinton) kids by pairing them with theater professionals who mentor them through the creation of original theater. For its One-on-One series, the its cornerstone acting program, the Project takes a group of ten kids out of town to a country retreat for a week in the summer. Each child is assigned a playwright who is charged to write a musical specifically for that child. The shows are rehearsed over the course of the week and performed informally for the community in the retreat setting. Upon returning to Manhattan, the plays are performed at the Project's Five Angels Theater (789 Tenth Avenue, 2nd floor, NYC), supported by professional designers and crews who volunteer their services.

The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University, under the leadership of Artistic Director Diane Paulus, began rehearsals today (pictured, left) for the world premiere musical Waitress. Based on the motion picture written by Adrienne Shelly the new musical has a book by Jessie Nelson, music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles, direction by Diane Paulus, and choreography by Chase Brock.

The Tony Award nominated production, A Year with Frog and Toad, is based on Arnold Lobel's popular children's series. It features book and lyrics by Willie Reale and a jazzy, upbeat score composed by his brother Robert Reale. The cheerful Frog and his grumpy sidekick, Toad, travel through the seasons on a heartwarming adventure. The story includes their animal friends in a variety show of entertainment with life lessons learned along the way.

INVISIBLE THREAD, Previously Titled WITNESS UGANDA, and Kenny Leon-Helmed SMART PEOPLE Set for Second Stage's 2015-16 Season

Second Stage Theatre has announced two New York Premiere productions for its upcoming 37th season.  The season will kick off in fall 2015 with the New York Premiere production of Matt Gould and Griffin Matthews' new musical, INVISIBLE THREAD (previously titled Witness Uganda), in association with American Repertory Theater, directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus (Finding Neverland, Pippin).  The season will continue in early 2016 with the New York premiere of Lydia R. Diamond's (Stick Fly) critically acclaimed play, SMART PEOPLE, directed by Tony Award Winner Kenny Leon (Fences, A Raisin in the Sun, Stick Fly). Two additional productions remain to be announced.

South Coast Repertory's 2015-16 season will take audiences- theatrically speaking-from Brighton, England, in the swinging '60s (Richard Bean's One Man, Two Guvnors) to 18th-century Austria (Peter Shaffer's Amadeus) to the American Wild West (Beth Henley's Abundance). In addition, the season will delve into the lives of artist Mark Rothko (Red by John Logan) and writer Sandra Tsing Loh (in her adaptation of her memoir, The Madwoman in the Volvo).

The Growing Stage, The Children's Theatre of New Jersey, located in the Historic Palace Theatre on Route 183 in Netcong, New Jersey completes its 2014 - 2015 Main Stage season with A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD. The show runs tonight, April 17th through May 10th with performances Saturday and Sunday matinees at 4:00 PM and a special Opening Night performance at 7:30PM.
