My work as a composer and lyricist has involved writing in diverse styles for quite a range of projects. BroadwayWorld readers may be most familiar with my musical theatre output, thanks in no small part to recordings by the likes of Kerry Ellis, Ramin Karimloo, Lara Pulver and Ben Forster. But one area I have always attacked with verve and passion is my work in the comedic genre.

Last night the international hit musical The Bodyguard celebrated Beverley Knight reprising the role of Oscar-nominated superstar Rachel Marron. Knight plays opposite Ben Richards as Frank Farmer, Marron's bodyguard.

In any awards ceremony, there is always one category that is almost a dead cert. Sometimes I resent the fact that this is the case and really feel for those others in the category who quite frankly don't stand a chance; even though they too worked their socks off to get the nomination. The category I'm referring to this year is Best Actress in a Musical.

Last night (8 March 2016) marked the opening of the West End production of Motown the Musical. With music and lyrics from the legendary Motown catalogue and book by Motown founder Berry Gordy,Motown the Musical is directed by Charles Randolph-Wright. Last month, due to public demand, a further 200,000 tickets were released for sale taking bookings at the Shaftesbury Theatre to 18 February 2017. A star-studded West End cast of over 50 principals, a 40-piece orchestra led by Gareth Valentine and an ensemble of more than 50, including a chorus from ArtsEd Musical Theatre, celebrated the songs and shows of Stephen Sondheim in HEY, OLD FRIENDS! An 85th Birthday Tribute to Stephen Sondheim, at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane on Sunday 25 October.
