Prospect Theater Company (under the leadership of Artistic Director Cara Reichel and Managing Director Melissa Huber), will be presenting a developmental reading of the new musical Marco Polo by Deborah Abramson (music) and Peter Mills (book and lyrics), on Monday, October 5.

Prospect Theater Company has announced the cast of By The Numbers, a part of the company's new IGNITE Series at The Times Center, featuring today's new voices shaping the future of musical theater. This one-night-only concert event will be Saturday, June 27th at 8pm.  The evening features the world premiere performance of 12 'micro-musicals' created in Prospect's 2015 Musical Theater Lab.  Each of these original, hot-off-the-presses musical theater shorts runs under seven minutes, and has been inspired by a number -- one through twelve -- creating a song cycle collectively written over the lab's month-long time span by participating composers & lyricists.

This week's spotlight is on composer/lyricist Drew Fornarola and bookwriter Scott Elmgreen. TIANANMEN is an original rock musical that follows the events of the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests in Beijing, focusing on the stories of three student demonstrators and the Communist leaders they dare to challenge. The students communicate through music while government leaders communicate through spoken dialogue, and in this way the show uses musical theatre to starkly and viscerally portray the generational and cultural divides that come between both sides. Selections from Tiananmen premiered in a March 2014 concert at 54 Below starring Telly Leung, Ruthie Ann Miles, and Karl Josef Co, and the show continues to be developed under the artistic guidance of director Stafford Arima and with academic support from the Harvard University Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations. The cast and creative team of the hit Off-Broadway musical Murder for Two are teaming up with some of New York's brightest up and coming composers and BroadwayWorld.com every Monday night for their spring concert series, Murderous Musical Mondays. Composers form the pace New Musicals Writers Room (including Aaron Albert & Katy Rea, Jamen Nanthakumar & Liana Wright-Mark, Kailey Marshall, Ian Fairlee, and John-Michael Lyles & David Gomez) contined the series on last night, April 21, 2014, immediately following the 7pm performance of Murder for Two at New World Stages (Stage 5 - 340 West 50th Street).

Pace University's Musical Theatre Class of 2015 presented a cabaret on May 4th and 5th at at Joe's Pub. The show, entitled Hatched, was a presentation of notable composers' works written in the past three months, including the likes of Shaina Taub, Niko Tsakalakos, Gordon Leary, Julia Meinwald, Drew Gasparini, Zoe Sarnak, Ryan Scott Oliver, and the students of Pace's Inaugural 'Writing for the Musical Theatre' class.
