YoungArts Announces Miami Art Week Events

During this year's Art Basel Miami Beach, the National YoungArts Foundation will host two visual arts exhibitions on their Miami campus, including the debut of a new body of work by José Parlá and an installation of rarely seen masterworks from the JPMorgan Chase Art Collection, as well as a booth at PULSE Miami Beach Contemporary Art Fair. Co-curated by Naomi Fisher (1994 YoungArts Winner in Visual Art) and Luisa Munera, YoungArts Artistic Programs Coordinator, the booth will feature works by ten YoungArts alumni.

Carnegie Hall today announced an exciting new guest artist line-up for its spring performances with The New York Pops and Music DirectorSteven Reineke. On Friday, March 10 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage, the orchestra and Maestro Reineke continue their Carnegie Hall season with Life is a Cabaret: The Songs of Kander and Ebb, a celebration of composer John Kander's 90th birthday and five-decade partnership with lyricist Fred Ebb. Tony Award nominee Tony Yazbeck joins previously announced Caissie Levy performing songs from the duo's biggest Broadway sensations including Cabaret, Kiss of the Spiderwoman,The Scottsboro Boys, and Chicago. Previously announced guest artist Joshua Henry is unable to appear in this concert due to a scheduling conflict.

The new musical NATASHA, PIERRE & THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 just had a starry Broadway opening last night, at the Imperial Theatre. Featuring the Broadway debuts of 24 cast and creative team members, including Josh Groban as 'Pierre' and Denee Benton as 'Natasha,' the new musical is created by Dave Malloy(Ghost Quartet, Preludes) and directed by Rachel Chavkin(Hadestown, Artistic Director of The TEAM), also making their Broadway debuts.

On Monday, November 14, the Theater People podcast welcome's Tony nominee Brandon Uranowitz. He made his Broadway debut in 2011's BABY IT'S YOU. He earned a Tony nomination for his turn as Adam Hochberg in last year's AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, and he can currently be seen in the role of Mendel in William Finn and James Lapine's critically acclaimed revival of FALSETTOS. For the episode, Uranowitz discusses the six months of auditions he went through to win the role of Mendel, how James Lapine was lovingly hard on him during the show's rehearsal process, and shares a memory of accompanying Katie Holmes on a shopping spree during his pre-Broadway days when he worked as a sales associate.

On Monday, Theater People podcast welcome's HAMILTON'S Mandy Gonzalez. She made her Broadway debut in 2000 in AIDA as the Amnneris standby. She eventually took the role over full-time. She went on to originate roles in DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES and LENNON before winning her breakout role as Nina in Lin-Manuel Miranda's IN THE HEIGHTS, a role she originated in the show's pre-Off Broadway days. She went on to take over the role of Elphaba in WICKED and can now be seen eight times a week in the hottest show on Broadway, HAMILTON.

At one point during WASTE OF SPACE, Chris Dwan began singing the lyric 'We're connected in our own sort of universe' again and again. That line came from an original track, 'All I Know,' co-written with Ross Baum. Making his New York City solo concert debut at Feinstein's/54 Below on September 6, Dwan did create his own sort of the universe, but the connections remained a bit unclear.
