According to an Equity casting notice, Sting's new stage musical, THE LAST SHIP, which has been buzzed about for an upcoming Broadway run, will get a staged reading this spring. Joe Mantello will direct the project, which is set to take place April 29 through May 11.

Manhattan Theatre Club, in collaboration with the intimate, state-of-the-art venue The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space at WNYC and WQXR, continues its popular discussion series with After Words: The Madrid on Thursday, March 21 at 5 PM.

Now acccording to an Equity casting notcice, the new musical will get developmental lab in New York City, which will take place April 1-8.

Manhattan Theatre Club's world premiere of THE MADRID, the new play by Liz Flahive, directed by two-time Obie Award winner Leigh Silverman, has been extended again at MTC at New York City Center - Stage I (131 West 55th Street). Tickets for the limited engagement are now on sale through Sunday, May 5. This will mark the last possible extension for the production which had previously been extended through Sunday, April 21.

In collaboration with Baldwin Wallace University Music Theatre Program, Beck Center for the Arts presents NEXT TO NORMAL, with music by Tom Kitt and book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey, and directed by Victoria Bussert, with musical direction by Nancy Maier and choreography by David Zody. Anyone who has seen Rent knows "One Song Glory" as essentially Roger's fight song. Any version of this song I've heard has sounded exactly like Adam Pascal's (the song's originator). Nonetheless, Ms. Espinosa put an entirely new motivation behind the song. For Eden Espinosa, this is not a fight song. It's a song of recognition. The character is dying. However, it is also a song of redemption. This character is not fighting. This character is saying goodbye. It's the polar opposite of the established version of the song.

There is a recent trend for Cleveland area professional theatres to couple with local university drama programs. Cleveland Play House has married itself to both Cleveland State University and Case Western Reserve's MFA programs. Cleveland Public Theatre and Oberlin College have such an agreement. The connection between Beck Center and Baldwin Wallace's nationally ranked musical theatre program, has resulted in not only allowing BW students to appear on a professional stage, and the expansion of the acting pool for Beck, but the production several top notch shows.

After last season's highly acclaimed Spring Awakening, Beck Center for the Arts partners once again with Baldwin Wallace University Music Theatre program to present three-time Tony Award winner and Pulitzer Prize-winning rock musical, Next to Normal, tonight, March 1 through April 21, 2013 in the intimate Studio Theater. Show times are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays. There are no performances on Sundays, March 31 or April 14.

Big breaking news, first reported by the New York Times, that Tony-winner Idina Menzel will be returning to Broadway in a new musical, If/Then by NEXT TO NORMAL's Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey.

New Line Theatre, now in its 22nd season of alternative, adult musical theatre, has announced its cast for the powerhouse Pulitzer Prize winning rock opera NEXT TO NORMAL, running Feb. 28-March 23, 2013 at the Washington University South Campus Theatre.

The Smith Center for the Performing Arts announced today that single tickets for the national tour of the explosive Broadway hit American Idiot, which runs June 11-16 will go on sale March 8 at 10 a.m. at The Smith Center Box Office

A group of friends, loud music, drugs, sex, war and rebellion against parental authority. If you're thinking Spring Awakening or Hair, you're close, but just a generation or two off. This one is American Idiot, a Punk Rock musical featuring songs from Green Day and making a tour stop at the Bushnell.

The Deep Dish Theater announces a slate of post-show discussions in conjunction with its production of Next to Normal, the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, playing March 1-17 at University Mall and March 22-24 at the Cary Arts Center. Each discussion will begin promptly after the performance. The play's running time is approximately 2 hours, and patrons not attending the performance are welcome to enter the theater afterwards for the discussion. All discussions are free and open to the public.

Darren Goldstein (Bloody, Bloody, Andrew Jackson; Abigail's Party) will join the cast of Manhattan Theatre Club's world premiere of THE MADRID in the role of Danny starting Thursday, February 28.

The American Theatre Wing announced today that the recipients of the 2013 Jonathan Larson Grants are writing team Joshua Salzman (music) & Ryan Cunningham (book and lyrics); and Kamala Sankaram. The prestigious grants, totaling $10,000, will be presented on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at a private event at the WNYC Greene Space. The event will feature special performances of the recipients' work.
