Disney's Beauty and the Beast, the award-winning worldwide smash hit Broadway musical, is returning to Philadelphia as part of the BROADWAY PHILADELPHIA season presented by the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts and the Shubert Organization. ALADDIN, Disney's new Broadway-bound musical, begins performances this evening at the Ed Mirvish Theatre. The production features the beloved music by Academy and Tony Award-winning composer Alan Menken and lyricists Howard Ashman, Tim Rice and Chad Beguelin, with a book by Beguelin.

The Tempe return of Disney's THE LION KING opens tonight, October 24 at 7:30 p.m. at ASU Gammage for a limited engagement of four weeks through November 17. In Tempe, THE LION KING plays Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m., Saturday matinees at 2:00 p.m., and Sundays at 1:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. "We are thrilled to have THE LION KING back in Tempe," said Colleen Jennings Roggensack, Executive Director of ASU Gammage. Tim Rice's FROM HERE TO ETERNITY just opened last night, October 23, at the Shaftesbury Theatre. Darius Campbell (Chicago, West End) plays Warden, Siubhan Harrison (Grease, West End) plays Lorene, Robert Lonsdale (Anna Christie, Donmar Warehouse) plays Prewitt, Ryan Sampson (Open Court, Royal Court) plays Maggio and Rebecca Thornhill (South Pacific, UK tour) plays Karen.

One has to admire the bravery of anyone who's willing to launch a brand-new musical at the Shaftesbury Theatre. Despite the successes of Hairspray and Rock of Ages, people seem to enjoy whispering about the 'curse of the Shaftesbury' due to its string of flops, and it seems to me that a fair number of onlookers really do want new shows to fail just for the continuation of this coincidental curse.

Producer and President of Disney Theatrical Productions, Thomas Schumacher and Stage Entertainment France, previously announced that they will continue their ongoing producing partnership with the premiere of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, which will make its debut in Paris, France tonight, October 24th, 2013 at the Mogador Theatre, marking the first time the production will be performed in French.
