Roundabout Revitalizes YANK!; Steggert, Santino et al. Lead Workshop in Feb.

BroadwayWorld has confirmed that the Roundabout Theatre Company will produce a workshop of Yank!, a WWII musical. The York Theatre Company premiered the show last season and since its critically acclaimed reception, buzz has been swirling about a Broadway transfer as early as next season. Original Yank! cast member Bobby Steggert will be reprising his role in the upcoming workshop. New cast members include Santino Fontana, Morgan Spector, Michael Berresse, Nellie McKay, Jeff Hiller, Tally Sessions, Colt Prattes, Derrick Trumbly, Jeremy Cohen, Tyler Maynard, Cole Escola, Brad Bass, Cody Williams and Colin Bradbury.

Composer/lyricist Rob Rokicki will present an evening of his music February 13 at The Laurie Beechman Theatre, titled 'Spread The Love: The Songs of Robert Rokicki and Friends.' The 7PM show will feature songs from his award-winning musical Love, NY; a full rock band; and several talented friends, including Courtney Wolfson (Addams Family), Megan Reinking (Hair), Tally Sessions (Yank!, Legally Blonde), Brian Gallagher, Heather Parcells (Wonderland, A Chorus Line), Amanda Flynn (Wicked, Mamma Mia), Lorinda Lisitza, Michael Ruby, and more!

Tony-award winning actress Lea Salonga (Miss Saigon, Les Miserables) and television and film icon George Takei (Star Trek, Heroes) will return to portray the roles of Gloria Suzuki and Old Sam Omura in a developmental reading of the new Broadway-bound musical, Allegiance, on October 25th at the Julia Miles Theatre in New York City. Telly Leung (Flower Drum Song, Pacific Overture, Wicked, Rent) and Allie Trimm (13, Bye Bye Birdie) also star. Allegiance is produced by Lorenzo Thione and Sing Out, Louise! Productions.

Yank!'s Broadway Run Postponed to Fall '11

According to the New York Times, Yank! wil not make it to Broadway until fall 2011. A spokesperson for Yank! said that the creators are having no trouble raising the $5 million needed for the production, but wanted to take more time to perfect the show's book.

Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post this morning that make no mistake about it - Robin and the 7 Hoods, which opened at San Deigo's Old Globe Theatre last Friday, July 30, is coming to town, at least if the widow of the show's lyricist has anything to do with it. Robin and the 7 Hoods, which garnered lukewarm reviews out west, features the music of Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen, including the songs 'My Kind of Town,' 'Call Me Irresponsible,' 'Ain't That a Kick in the Head,' 'All the Way' and more. Cahn was Frank Sinatra's preferred lyricist and member of the famed 'Rat Pack.'
