Sundance Institute Selects Artists for 2014 Playwrights Retreat at Ucross Foundation

Sundance Institute today announced the seven artists selected for its 2014 Playwrights Retreat at Ucross Foundation. The 15th annual writing colony at the 20,000-acre working cattle ranch outside of Sheridan, WY takes place February 3-21. Under the supervision of Artistic Director Philip Himberg and Producing Director Christopher Hibma, the Playwrights Retreat is made possible through the generosity of Ucross Foundation.

Company XIV's NUTCRACKER ROUGE Set for Minetta Lane Theatre, 11/29-1/5

Company XIV and The Saint At Large will present the New York Premiere of Nutcracker Rouge, conceived, directed and choreographed by Austin McCormick, with a script adapted and written by Jeff Takacs. Nutcracker Rouge runs Off-Broadway from November 29, 2013 to January 5, 2014 in a limited 6-week engagement at the Minetta Lane Theatre, located at 18 Minetta Lane between MacDougal Street and 6th Avenue in New York City. Previews begin November 29 for a December 4 opening.

A.R.T.'s THE LIGHT PRINCESS to Run 12/21-1/5

Following previous seasons sold-out holiday hits, The Snow Queen and Hansel and Gretel, the A.R.T. Institute, in association with the Loeb Drama Center, brings another children's story to life - The Light Princess, by Lila Rose Kaplan with music by Mike Pettry, directed by Allegra Libonati, with choreography by Jeff and Rick Kuperman. Performances will be held at the Loeb Drama Center at from December 21 through January 5, 2014.

UnsungMusicalsCo. (UMC) will present a one-night-only concert of Caesar's Wife featuring the world premiere of an original score written circa 1969 by Tony Award nominee Carolyn Leigh (Peter Pan, Little Me, Gatsby) and Grammy Award nominee Lee Pockriss (Gatsby, Ernest in Love). Conceived and directed by Ben West (The Fig Leaves Are Falling, At Home Abroad), this new behind-the-scenes look at the unfinished musical will play Peter Norton Symphony Space on Monday, November 18 at 7:30 PM.

A year after his death at age 103, the American Symphony Orchestra pays tribute to Elliott Carter, a life-long New Yorker, two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, and one of the greatest composers of the second half of the 20th century. This mini-retrospective including six of the finest orchestral works by the prolific American composer, who published more than 50 of his works after the age of 90, reveals the range and extent of Carter's inventive genius and provides a rare chance to hear an all-Elliott Carter program, in the presence of members of the Carter family.

Eric Bentley -- playwright, poet, drama critic, teacher, cabaret performer, and foremost authority on and translator of the works of Bertolt Brecht -- has been working with Soprano Karyn Levitt on his current creative venture: 'Eric Bentley's Brecht-Eisler Song Book', which is set for Symphony Space on February 3, 2014. Karyn Levitt first met Eric Bentley in September of 2011, just before his 95th birthday.

As part of its In the Salon series, Symphony Space presents the acclaimed Cassatt String Quartet in a program of American-themed pieces, Friday, November 22 at 7:30 pm in the Leonard Nimoy Thalia. The concert, which marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, is a musical exploration of the evolving notion of 'the American Dream,' with Antonin Dvorak's String Quartet No. 12, 'American' (1893) the oldest work on the program.

The debut Shaw play to inaugurate Project Shaw's new home will be Shaw's Don Juan in Hell today, October 28 at 7pm. Directed by David Staller, Don Juan in Hell stars Tony Award winner Richard Easton (The Statue), Tony Award nominees Michael Cumpsty (The Devil) and Alison Fraser (Dona Ana) with Max Gordon Moore (Don Juan). The evening is hosted by Robert Osborne of Turner Classic Movies. There will be special performances by Tony Award winner George S. Irving and Tony Award nominee Charlotte Rae, with Beth Ertz on the piano.
