The 'Alley Theatre @ UH' season begins with Betty Buckley, Hallie Foote, Annalee Jefferies and Veanne Cox in award-winning Texas playwright Horton Foote's The Old Friends, a Southwestern premiere.

Obie Award-winning actor/playwright Dael Orlandersmith returns to Weston for a limited run of Stoop Stories, a one-act drama that is powerful, intelligent and completely captivating. In the play, the Harlem native embodies a half-a-dozen characters - from an 81-year old Holocaust survivor recounting a chance encounter with Billy Holiday to a 13-year old Latina who succumbs to a sexy young gang member - united over the course of time by a ubiquitous city stoop. The show runs for just 10 days from July 24 - August 3 at the Weston Rod and Gun Club.

Berkshire Theatre Group presents Noel Coward's Design for Living at the Unicorn Theatre in Stockbridge. Opening Night is August 2 at 8pm. Preview performances begin on July 30 at 7pm and the production closes August 16 at 8pm.

A reading of Harriet, a musical based on the life of Harriet Tubman, will be presented today, July 16, at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., and on Sunday, July 20 at 12 p.m. in The Studio Theatre at Theatre Row, 410 West 42nd Street (between 9th Avenue & Dyer Avenue). Harriet is an official selection of the 2014 New York Musical Theatre Festival.

It's 1967. Lyndon B. Johnson is in office, Jackie Kennedy and Aristotle Onassis have just become an "item," protests against the Vietnam war are going strong - and Judge Francis Biddle, former Attorney General under FDR and Chief Judge at the Nuremburg Trials, is 81 years old. Trying, the award-winning play inspired by the real-life experiences of playwright Joanna McClelland Glass as personal secretary to Biddle during the last year of his life, opens at International City Theatre on Aug. 22, directed by John Henry Davis and starring Tony Abatemarco and Paige Lindsey White.

Old Norman Productions is pleased to announce the world premiere of SONNY UNDER THE ASSUMPTION, an original play by Edward Allan Baker (North of Providence, Dolores) debuting in Toronto, July 23-27 at the AKI Studio Theatre, Daniel Spectrum Artscape (250-585 Dundas Street). This powerful play investigates the realistic gap between the haves and have-nots, and questions whether individual people are truly capable of changing themselves - and thereby able to change the community they live in.

For Tonight, by creators Shenelle Williams, Spencer Williams and Whitney Rhodes, has extended its run at The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF). This will be the first time in the history of the festival that a reading will add an additional performance to its run. They will be performing a concert version of this new original musical on Friday, July 18, 2014 at 9pm at Ford Foundation Studio Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street, New York, NY 10036).

Miami Actor Matthew Glass brings the late Iranian playwright Assurbanipal Babilla's wicked comedy to the 2014 United Solo. SOMETHING SOMETHING UBER ALLES by Assurbanipal Babilla, performed by Matthew Glass, and directed by Michael Yawney, will be performed on Sunday, October 26 , 2014 at 2:00 p.m.

NYMF's most popular presentation, FABLE will play at Ford Foundation Studio Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center Tuesday, July 22 through Sunday, July 27. NYMF has begun adding performances. Thursday, July 24 at 5:00pm is the first; Sunday, July 27 at 1:00pm is the second; with more to follow. Composer/Lyricist Christopher Anselmo has been selected as a participant in the prestigious 2014 NYMF/ASCAP Musical Songwriting Workshop, which runs in New York from Monday, July 14 through Sunday, July 20. Mr. Anselmo and Mr. Kaufman (Book) have been scooped up by 54 Below (254 West 54 Street) where they will perform their FRIENDSHIP, FABLES AND FUN: A NIGHT WITH CHRIS AND HARRISON for one night only - Thursday, July 17 at 11:30pm.

Studio 2ndStage's final production of the 2013-2014 season is the edgy and strangely charming Carrie: The Musical, co-directed by Studio 2ndStage Artistic Director Keith Alan Baker and Jacob Janssen. Cohen,Michael Gore and Dean Pitchford, 2ndStage's CARRIE stars Tony Award nominee Barbara Walsh as Carrie's mother, Margaret White, with Emily Zickler making her Studio Theatre debut playing the titular role. The love that dare not speak its name becomes exactly that in Bill McMahon's heart-tugging work Cover, a play which examines the fault lines found in even the most committed relationships. Produced by Tony Award-winning producer Jim Kierstead and directed by Paul J. Michael, Cover will be performed today, July 15 at 6pm, Thursday, July 17 at 7:45pm, Saturday, July 26 at 4:15pm, Sunday, July 27 at 7pm, Monday, July 28 at 7:30pm and Tuesday, July 29 at 6pm at the Dorothy Strelsin Theatre, located at 312 West 36th Street.

Not since Carrie. A phrase that has haunted creators of musicals ever since Ken Mandelbaum's famous 1991 book that looks at 40 years of Broadway musical flops. The original Broadway production in 1988 was a disaster, partly due to the writing, but more to do with original director Terry Hands' disastrous approach and minimalist concept. Closing 5 performances after the official opening night, Carrie cleaned up its blood, but not its money and went on to become one of the most famous and financial flops (although a certain Bono-tuned superhero of recent memory has surpassed that).

For those who didn't have the opportunity to meet the cast of the award-winning Equity professional East Lynne Theater Company's "Zorro!" at the opening night after-show party at the Washington Inn on July 23, another chance is to be had on Friday, August 1 at an after-show Q&A. It's a wonderful opportunity for patrons to ask actors, director, and technical team such questions as "why do they do what they do?" and "how do they do it?"

The Toronto Fringe Festival has announced the lineup for the Best of Fringe, selected and presented at the Toronto Centre for the Performing Arts. Eight fringe productions will be presented in the Studio Theatre between July 16, 2014 and July 30, 2014.

Transport Group's concert presentation of The Music Man has sold out The Pershing Square Signature Center's Irene Diamond Stage. Both general admission and premium reserved seating sold out within 24 hours of the initial casting announcement. Transport Group is taking names for a waiting list for cancellation tickets.

Just announced, the cast of Les Miserables will be performing a FREE cabaret in the 4th Floor Studio Theatre following tonight's performance. Seating is general admission and a full cash bar will be available. Doors to the Cast Cabaret will open at 11pm.

Summer's here and the snowbirds have migrated back up north. That means it's time again for the annual funny fest known as the Sarasota Improv Festival. The non-stop laughter returns today and tomorrow, July 11 and 12 for two days and nights of unpredictable and hysterical comedy, with 17 of the hottest groups on the national improv scene.
