Portland Center Stage’s annual JAW New Play Festival returns July 28-30, 2023. JAW is PCS’s week-long assembling of artists and audiences to create new plays. Each July, artistic teams, including playwrights, directors, and actors, come together to rehearse — and a lot of times rewrite! — a new play.

Samadahi Entertainment is set to present VENUS IN FUR, by David Ives, directed by Mark Blanchard.  The dark comedy with exceedingly complex characters and a fast-paced play within a play, featuring Russian-born multi-award-winning actress KATYUSHA (Ekaterina Melnik) as Vanda, is set to open August 4th through September 3rd, 2023, at McCadden Place Theatre.

When spoken word arts and theatre are fused together, magic happens for both poets and audiences. Towne Street Theatre's (TST) SUM Poetry returns on Thursday, July 6th with the theme, Keys to the Past, Doors to the Future to honor TST's 30 years of dismantling injustice through the performing arts. Master poet Robert LaMarr Randle headlines with his one-man performance of Break Me to Make Me, a powerful piece about the Black experience of struggle, resistance and survival.

Shakespeare Lives!, an intensive 10-day workshop created by Shakespeare Troupe of South Florida, will offer students ages 13 – 22 the opportunity to study many facets of classical acting. Classes will take place at Sol Theatre in Boca Raton from July 24th through August 4th.  The program is spearheaded by Shakespeare Troupe founder Peter Galman.

This summer, however, I am a student in group A of the Stella Adler Summer Conservatory program. This post is going to be a little introduction into my first two weeks there. So far, I haven’t found a class or a professor at Stella Adler whom I’ve disliked.

Little Blue Cap Productions will present The Grandmothers Grimm written by Emily Ingram and directed by Katie Fitz, Molly Revenson, ELi Sibley, Emma Szuba, & KJ Wilkerson. The production will be presented as part of the 2023 National Women's Theatre Festival through the WTFRINGE Directing Lab at the North Carolina State University's Frank Thompson Hall with performances on Saturday, June 24 at 4:30pm and Sunday, June 25 at 8:30pm.
