Actors Theatre's 2019�"2020 Professional Training Company Announces New Season

Actors Theatre of Louisville and Artistic Director Robert Barry Fleming announce the upcoming season of the 2019-2020 Professional Training Company (PTC), taking flight with the three-part Solo Mio Series running this fall and continuing with The New Play Project in January. This lineup of original works will introduce the new cohort of early-career professionals to the Louisville community and beyond as they kick off their season at Actors Theatre. ActorsTheatre.org.

Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park will begin the 2019-2020 season with the vibrant one-act musical, ONCE ON THIS ISLAND on Sept. 7 in the Marx Theatre. The production will run through Oct. 6, with opening night on Sept. 12.

Arena Stage And American University Announce Artistic Director Intensive

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater, in association with American University, will pilot an Artistic Director Intensive Program beginning July 21, 2019. Ten new artistic directors of theaters from across the country will participate in this pioneering program. This initiative is designed to support, connect and advance new artistic directors in their demanding work.

Negative racial and ethnic stereotypes, anti-ageism, political philosophical differences, and border conflicts are not usual topics for a comic play. But, author Karen Zacarias, whose 'Native Gardens' is now in production at Cleveland Play House, believes 'humor humanizes' when what could be the basis of a blood bath becomes a pool of laughter with a purpose.

Robert Barry Fleming will join Actors Theatre of Louisville as Artistic Director. The appointment was announced Monday by Mac Thompson, President of the Board of Directors, and Managing Director Kevin E. Moore. Fleming comes to Louisville by way of Cleveland where he serves as Associate Artistic Director of Cleveland Play House; previously, he was the Director of Artistic Programming at Arena Stage in Washington, D.C. His tenure at Actors Theatre begins June 1, 2019.

Lynn Nottage, who has been called 'as fine a playwright as America has,' started to craft 'Sweat,' which is now getting a production at Cleveland Play House, in 2011, just before the height of the national malaise, but not before Reading, Pennsylvania and similar areas were hit by layoffs, plant closings, and general angst. The playwright honed in on the national problem and succeeded in writing a raw, disturbing and illuminating script that won the 2017 Pulitzer for Drama.

Cleveland Play House Announces 2018 Roe Green Award Winners

Cleveland Play House (CPH) is proud to name Nick Gandiello and Chelsea Marcantel as the recipients of the 2018 Roe Green Award, in conjunction with the 7th Annual New Ground Theatre Festival (NGTF). Each year, the Roe Green Award is given for outstanding achievement in playwriting.  Mr. Gandiello's play Cicada will be presented in a reading on Sunday, May 13th at 7:30 p.m., and Ms. Marcantel's production of Tiny Houses will be offered on Saturday May 19th at 2:00 p.m. As previously announced, Tiny Houses will have a full production run in the Outcalt Theatre March 23rd -April 14th, 2019 as part of the 2018-2019 CPH Season.  CPH Artistic Director, Laura Kepley, will direct both presentations of Marcantel's play.

Cleveland Play House Appoints Artistic Directing Fellow

After a competitive national search, Cleveland Play House (CPH) selected Sarah Wansley to join the company for the 2018-19 season as the Artistic Directing Fellow. This Fellowship, designed to address inequities in the field, is for experienced female theatre directors with regional theatre leadership aspirations. Wansley will work alongside CPH Artistic Director Laura Kepley and Associate Artistic Director Robert Barry Fleming learning theatre management, producing methods, and administration skills. She will also direct the fall CWRU/CPH MFA production, to be announced at a later date, and the New Ground Theatre Festival production of The Wolves, in the spring of 2019.

Cleveland Play House (CPH) Artistic Director Laura Kepley announced the 2018-2019 Season today to a standing-room-only gathering in the Allen Theatre at Playhouse Square. "This season will inspire and invigorate our loyal patron base and introduce new audiences to what CPH does best -- tell stories that matter in productions that are imaginative, thrilling, and entertaining," said Kepley.
