Barter Theatre to Present DAVID, 8/23-9/8

Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Va., will host a special presentation of "The New Musical: DAVID," based on the Biblical story of David with original music. Written and produced by Danny Hamilton and Gary Richardson, the show will run for a limited engagement-only 21 performances-August 23 through September 8 at Barter Main Stage.

Canadian Stage presents the 30th anniversary of Toronto's much-loved outdoor theatre tradition, Shakespeare in High Park, with a new production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Featuring a talented local cast with award-winning director Richard Rose at the helm, the production gives the classic comedy a unique Toronto twist, bringing it closer than ever to High Park today. The popular pay-what-you-can, family-friendly event will run from June 28 to September 2, 2012 on Tuesday to Sunday at 8 p.m. with gates opening at 6 p.m.

The 2012 Dora Mavor Moore Awards took place this past Monday night, honouring the best of the best of the past year in Toronto theatre. The 33rd Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards were announced yesterday, with Acting Up Stage, Nightwood Thetare and Theatre Passe Muraille emerging as the leaders of the pack with the most number of nominations in their respective divisions. The Awards will be distributed in a ceremony hosted by Thom Allison at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts on June 25th, 2012 and BWW is thrilled to bring its readers photo coverage of the nomination event.

Richard Rose Receives TAPA's 2012 Barbara Hamilton Memorial Award

Barbara Hamilton Memorial Award was inaugurated in 1996 and is given to a Canadian artist who demonstrates excellence in the performing arts and is dedicated to advocating and being an ambassador for the arts in Canada. The Barbara Hamilton Memorial Award is sponsored by the City of Toronto, and the recipient is awarded with a scroll and a cheque for $1,000 from the City.
