Urban Stages Theater is presenting the premier reading of On The Flip Side, a new jukebox musical by Gary Apple as part of their 'Winter Readings Series.' Jukebox musicals about legendary superstars have packed Broadway houses over recent years, so Apple decided to create one for artists who will never have a jukebox musical of their own -- namely, One-Hit Wonders.

Urban Stages Theater is presenting the first public reading of LEAVE THE CANNOLI, the latest play by Gary Apple as part of their 'New Year, New Plays' series, LEAVE THE CANNOLI is a comedy set in the world of The Godfather and tells the unknown story of how the horse head ends up in the movie producer's bed. Though everyone knows that iconic scene, the film never explains how the horse head actually got there. Playwright Apple, known for his twisted tales, decided to speculate on how it might have happened.

August Strindberg Rep will present Strindberg's 'The Father,' newly translated and directed by Robert Greer, in rotation with '#MeThree,' an evening of three original short one-acts by resident playwright Natalie Menna, in rotating rep from November 9 to December 1. The two evenings are designed to enable audiences of the #MeToo era to examine the war between the sexes from both a classical and a modern perspective. Performances are at Gene Frankel Theatre, 24 Bond Street (between Bowery and Lafayette, East Village).

LEAH, THE FORSAKEN is a tale of forbidden love, treachery, and redemption from 1862. Leah, a Jewish refugee fleeing persecution in Hungary, is forbidden by law to pass the night in an Austrian town. But there she wins the love of Rudolf, a Christian citizen. When a particularly zealous persecutor convinces Rudolf she has betrayed him, he quickly renounces her. Leah retreats to her exile, but only after bestowing her and her people's curse on him and his progeny. Can there be any light in such a darkened time, and what could possibly light it?

Reconciled to a degree, the couple find grace in forgiveness and contrition, though equality is an elusive treasure.
