GREASE is the Word at Rise Above Performing Arts in 2018

Rise Above Performing Arts will be presenting Grease which will run from January 18th - 21st, 2018. It will be directed Rise Above's Artistic Director Jacob Ruscoe, Music Directed by Joi Chapman with Choreography Rachael Nicole Henry. They all also serve on the board along with Krista Baker (Development Coordinator), Kevin Ray Johnson (Creative Arts Advisor) and Jeff Dulitz (Technical Director).

'We had been jamming in the carriage house for almost two years and sounded pretty good,' recalls Mwalim DaPhunkee Professor, 'I had brought in a digital recorder and we even made a demo of about 4 or five songs.' 'The only thing,' added Eddie Ray Johnson, 'was that all we knew were about 4 or five songs... completely. We also knew a couple of Mwalim's originals; but otherwise, we barely had a complete set. The next rehearsal, Mwalim casually mentions that we had two gigs coming up, both on the same day.'

KEVIN Ray Johnson's coming of age drama The Unpredictable Times will be premiering with Showcase on Main in Elkton Maryland in 2018. The workshop premiere will be directed by S. Lee Lewis - who serves as The Artistic Director of Showcase on Main.

Girl Be Heard presents BLURRED LINES

The award-winning ensemble Girl Be Heard (girlbeheard.org), a nonprofit theatre company that amplifies the stories of young women, is pleased to present the World Premiere of BLURRED LINES, a revolutionary new show about the normalization of rape culture in contemporary society at HERE (145 6th Ave, one block south of Spring St, enter on Dominick St) February 9-19. This production is a part of SubletSeries@HERE: a curated rental program, which provides artists with subsidized space and equipment, as well as technical support.
