AQUILA THEATRE (Peter Meineck, Artistic Director) is proud to announce their production of Luigi Pirandello's classic Six Characters In Search of An Author at NYU's Skirball Center (566 Laguardia Place) on Wednesday, April 20 at 8PM and Thursday, April 21 at 8PM, directed by Desiree Sanchez, with masks made by David Knezz, and featuring Sarah Amankwah (Edinburgh Fesitival, UK National Theatre), Claire Cordier (Cheek By Jowl, Edinburgh Festival), Howard Crossley (Royal Shakespeare Company, 'Midsummer' on Broadway), Andrew French (Royal National Theatre, Almeida Theatre), Emily Jordan (Casualty on BBC), Danny Seldon (Royal Shakespeare Company) and Owen Young (The Globe).

Peter Meineck, Artistic Director of the Aquila Theatre Company at NYU's Center for Ancient Studies, today announced that it has received an unprecedented grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, a Chairman's Special Award (the only one for a theater company), of $800,000.00, one of the two largest grants made, to launch its newest program, ANCIENT GREEKS / MODERN LIVES, whose mission is to bring the classics to 100 veteran, inner city and rural communities. This marks the first-ever theatre and community-based Chairman's Special Award. No other theater company has ever received a grant of this size from the NEH.

Featured in both productions are Leandra Ashton, Lucy Black, Howard Crossley, Damian Davis, Lauren Davis, James Lavender, and Owen Young.

The Aquila Theatre Company brings a modern dress version of Shakespeare's fanciful play, AS YOU LIKE IT to the stage of the Edison Theatre on Feb 12th, and follows up the next evening with a performance of Henrik Ibsen's dramatic work, AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE on Feb 13th.

The Henry Hewes Design Awards Committee has nominated 60 theater artists for recognition of their outstanding work in 46 productions presented during the 2008-2009 New York theater season. The awards will be presented at a luncheon to be held late this fall.

The Stella Adler Studio of Acting will be holding its 4th annual Harold Clurman Festival of the Arts this fall, bringing artists and activists together to discuss the relationship between art and social activism. Events will take place beginning on September 18th and end on September 28th.

AQUILA THEATRE (Peter Meineck, Artistic Director) continues their season with Homer's Iliad: Book One. Previews began March 31st, and performances continue through April 25th. Opening Night is April 16th. Directed by Peter Meineck, Iliad: Book One will have original music by Anthony Cochrane and movement by Desiree Sanchez.
