The Olathe Civic Theatre Association (OCTA) Board of Directors has announced its 41st season for 2015-2016, unveiling a balance of genres and directors that promise to propel the theatre into the next phase of its success.

DOGFIGHT, the hauntingly beautiful musical by Pasek and Paul (Edges, James and the Giant Peach, A Christmas Story) and Peter Duchan, will receive it's Toronto debut in the form of a staged reading, December 1st and 2nd at TRANZAC (292 Brunswick Avenue), produced by Kelly Holiff and Jason Spetter.

The 26th Annual Festival of New Musicals, presented by the National Alliance For Musical Theatre (NAMT), kicked off with THE 46TH MINUTE, a concert hosted by Lindsay Mendez and featuring performances by Heidi Blickenstaff, Doreen Montalvo, Mamie Parris, Bryce Ryness, and more. Musical presentations started October 23 at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street) and included Beautiful Poison, Cubamor, Great Wall, How To Break, Mary Marie, The Noteworthy Life of Howard Barnes, String and Stu For Silverton. Second Stage Theatre's production of Terrence McNally's play, Lips Together, Teeth Apart, directed by Peter DuBois, officially opened last night, October 29, 2014. The production features Michael Chernus(Obie Award winner for In the Wake), Tracee Chimo (Lortel Award winner for Bad Jews, 2ST Uptown's Bachelorette), America Ferrera(Emmy Award winner for 'Ugly Betty') andAustin Lysy (2ST's The Water's Edge). One of the most exciting and promising new musicals to come out of New York in the last few years for me has to be 'Dogfight'. This adaptation of the little known film from up and coming composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul and writer Peter Duchan showed off that musical theater still has quite a vibrant heartbeat. So when I heard that ArtsWest was mounting this recent Lucille Lortel Award winner I was quite excited. And while there are a few muddled choices in the current production, the show elicits tons of heart and some truly touching moments especially from Seattle newbie Devon Busswood, but we'll get to more on her in a minute.
