New Repertory Theatre has announced 2014-2015: the 30th Anniversary Season, PARADOX: HEROES & ANTIHEROES, VIRTUES & VICES.

Berkeley Repertory Theatre presents the world premiere of The House that will not Stand, a humorous and gripping historical drama commissioned from award- winning poet-playwright and Oakland native Marcus Gardley. Sensuous, witty, heartbreaking, and uplifting - The House that will not Stand unearths a story about free women of color in 1836 New Orleans, where black Creole women entered into common-law marriages with affluent white men. Olney Theatre Center proudly announces the return of legendary star of stage and screen Sir Ian McKellen, making his musical comedy debut in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying as the "Book Voice", narrating the action in the Tony-winning musical. Former Artistic Director Jim Petosa, who produced McKellen's first appearance at Olney, has signed on to voice the show's "TV Announcer". How to Succeed is known for having voiceover parts often recorded by recognizable voices including broadcast journalists Walter Cronkite (1995 Broadway revival) and Anderson Cooper (2011 Broadway revival).

Due to critical acclaim and audience response, including 16 sold-out performances in Watertown, New Repertory Theatre announces an encore presentation of Deborah Margolin's IMAGINING MADOFF, May 28 through June 1, 2014.

German Stage presents this psychological thriller, Threesome Without Simone, featuring Jordan Ahnquist, and brothers David Berger-Jones and Daniel Berger Jones, directed by Guy Ben-Aharon. There will be a Q&A following the performance with award-winning playwright Kristo Sagor. Mr. Sagor will be giving lectures at Brandeis University, Harvard University's ART Institute and Boston University while in Boston.

From today, January 10 - February 8, 2014, SpeakEasy Stage Company will present THE COLOR PURPLE, the acclaimed Broadway musical based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker and the Warner Bros./Amblin Entertainment motion picture.

Convicted swindler Bernard Madoff squares off with a fictional victim of his Ponzi scheme in Deborah Margolin's controversial play in New Rep's Black Box Theater. Under the direction of Elaine Vaan Hogue, on Jon Savage's stunning set, Jeremiah Kissel, Joel Colodner, and Adrianne Krstansky tell this powerful human story that explores why Madoff did what he did and how he got away with it.

The Nora Theatre Company will present Terry Johnson's Insignificance from today, January 9 - February 9, 2014. Insignificance is directed by Daniel Gidron. The press performance for Insignificance is Monday, January 13 at 7:30PM.

CEW Productions, the producers of the hit Off-Broadway musical Mama and her boys will present a staged reading of Stopgap, a new play by Danielle Mohlman.

Sensuous, witty, heartbreaking, and uplifting - The House that will not Stand unearths a story about free women of color in 1836 New Orleans, where black Creole women entered into common-law marriages with affluent white men. When her wealthy lover mysteriously dies, Beartrice Albans' foundation of security hangs precariously by a thread. She is left to fend for her three unwed daughters in a world where freedom must be carefully negotiated. Told in a rich and lyrical river of words, this new play was developed through The Ground Floor: Berkeley Rep's Center for the Creation and Development of New Work. It's helmed by Patricia McGregor, whose many credits include the celebrated production of Spunk at California Shakespeare Theater. The House that will not Stand begins previews on Berkeley Rep's intimate Thrust Stage on Friday, January 31, opens on Wednesday, February 5 and runs through Sunday, March 16, 2014.
