Broadway at Birdland today announced a partnership with multi-Grammy and Tony nominated composer Frank Wildhorn for a monthly concert series called "Frank & Friends." The series of one-night-only concerts will feature the songs and performers from the composer's range of work in popular, theatrical and classical music. All profits will go to The Actors Fund, a nationwide human services organization that helps all professionals in the performing arts and entertainment.

Musician/ Playwright/ Spoken-word artist and UMass Dartmouth Professor, Mwalim (Morgan James Peters) 'DaPhunkeeProfessor' was surprised and honored with a proclamation from the Boston City Council. During Mwalim's May 3rd presentation of 'You're An NDN??' at the Dudley Branch Library, Ken Yarbough, special assistant to Charles Yancey made the presentation in front of an audience of about 30 - 40 people. Cited for his '27 years as a performing artist, writer, digital media artist, educator and mentor throughout the Boston area...' Mwalim was particularly recognized for his 'Academic On The Block' initiative that brings presentations in the arts and humanities to community spaces, libraries and schools throughout eastern Massachusetts, including Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan.

Earlier this morning, stage and screen stars Kristin Chenoweth & Jim Parsons announced this year's Tony nominees from the New York Public Library. Hundreds of hopeful actors, ages 6 to 16, showed up at the Circle in the Square Theatre today, April 25, to audition for the Broadway musical GODSPELL. The audition panel, including director Daniel Goldstein, is looking to fill 10 roles in the show. About 300 kids, including Holly Block, Gaten Matarazzo and Ellis Gage, who are featured in the video below, performed 16 measures of music for the panel.
