Bloomberg will join Alec Baldwin to present the 2011 Mayor's Awards for Arts and Culture to six individuals and organizations in celebration of their outstanding contributions to New York City's cultural life. The Mayor will also present the Handel Medallion, New York City's highest award for achievement in the arts, to the world-renowned composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim. The event, to be held at New York City's acclaimed Alice Tully Hall, will feature live performances by leading performing arts organizations, and appearances by special guest artists.

New York City Center will reopen following a historic renovation and modernization with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and star-studded gala on Tuesday, October 25 at New York City Center. Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg will conduct the Encores! The sun came out in Thousand Oaks, CA last week as Cabrillo Music Theatre proudly opened its all new production of the hit musical, Annie. ANNIE also marks the return of Sally Struthers as Miss Hannigan to the Cabrillo stage, having won a Los Angeles Stage Alliance Ovation Award for her performance as the Fairy Godmother in Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella last season. Annie opened Friday, October 14th and continues through Sunday, October 23rd, at the 1,800-seat Kavli Theatre at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, located at 2100 Thousand Oaks Boulevard in Thousand Oaks. Broadway World TV's Los Angeles Correspondent/Producer Michael Sterling and Associate Producer Jerry Evans of JLE Media Group Inc., spent a day with Ms. Struthers and the Annie company to talk about the world's beloved musical.

The New York Pops orchestra - famous for presenting popular music with a symphony orchestra of the highest quality - celebrated the music of Irving Berlin in a stirring program entitled 'Rags to Ritzes.' Under the baton of guest director Jack Everly, the concert kicked off the orchestra's 29th season on October 14 with an evening of quintessentially American music.
