MCC Theater welcomes film and television star Robin Tunney, making her stage debut opposite Zachary Quinto in the New York premiere of Smokefall by Noah Haidle, directed by Anne Kauffman, who directed The Nether for MCC last season to great acclaim. Smokefall will play the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street) with previews beginning tonight, February 4, 2016, and an opening night set for February 22. It is scheduled through March 13. Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) presents the U.S. Premiere of the solo theater work BRODSKY / BARYSHNIKOV, based on poems by the late Nobel laureate Joseph Brodsky, and performed by actor and BAC artistic director Mikhail Baryshnikov. Sascha Radetsky, a former Soloist at American Ballet Theatre, has been named Director of the ABT/NYU Master's Degree Program in Ballet Pedagogy.  Radetsky's appointment, effective immediately, was announced today by ABT Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie. The New York University Master of Arts Program in Teaching Dance in the Professions with a concentration in ABT Ballet Pedagogy, established in Fall 2008, emphasizes the study of ballet technique combined with discipline-based inquiries and scholarly research. Back by popular demand, On Kentucky Avenue: A Celebration of Atlantic City's Historic Club Harlem returns to City College's performing arts center Aaron Davis Hall on Friday, February 19, for a three-day encore engagement. The show, which shines a red-hot spotlight on a little-known piece of Black history and a famed club that came out of the segregation era, is presented by the City College Center for the Arts (CCCA) and Byron and Sylvia Lewis. Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) announces the successful completion of its two-year, $1M Cage Cunningham Campaign to establish the Cage Cunningham Fund for artist fellowships, named for legendary artistic partners John Cage and Merce Cunningham. BAC's Artistic Director Mikhail Baryshnikov announced the inaugural Cage Cunningham Fellow, Alexei Lubimov, at an event on Monday, December 14, held at the Center. The event also served as the official naming of BAC's Studio 6A the John Cage and Merce Cunningham Studio. The Studio is the first physical space honoring Cage and Cunningham's unparalleled contribution to 20th century art and culture. (more...)
