September 2016 is also known as National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.  According to National Vital Statistics Reports, suicide was the second leading cause of death for Asian Americans aged 15 to 34.   It is also the leading cause of death among Gay and Lesbian youth nationally.  To help build awareness around the issue of suicide and to promote prevention, Barnard College Student Life presents Marisa Marquez's new American play, Ms. Oriental, which is directed by Ilana Becker.

About two dozen plays, hot off their hit runs at the 17th annual New York International Fringe Festival, are ready to be discovered by the rest of the world. Martin Denton, founder and editor of Indie Theater Now, announced the first 12 script titles that will be included in this collection, representing the diversity, vibrancy, invention, energy, and fun of FringeNYC.

YELLOW BRICK WALL is written and performed by founding members of Leviathan Lab's Asian American Women Writers Workshop Siho Ellsmore (Off-Broadway: JEWTOPIA) and Marisa Marquez (Playwriting: GATED, nominated for five Midtown International Theater Awards; named as one of the Filipino Women's Network 100 Most Influential Filipina in the U.S.), and is directed by Danny Williams (GATED, Nominated for Outstanding Director- Midtown International Theater Festival).

GATED,Filipino-American playwright Marisa Marquez's new dark comedy that exposes dysfunctional relationships between residents of a gated community of Las Penas Hills in California, premieres at the Midtown International Theatre Festival.

The Midtown International Theatre Festival (MITF) announces the 2011 Season, running from July 11 - 31, 2011. 22 plays and 11 musicals have been chosen. Tickets are $18-15.
