PTP/NYC's 27th anniversary season opened on July 10 at The Atlantic Stage 2. The opening night party guests included five-time Tony Award nominee and Drama Desk Award winner Jan Maxwell, Kristine Nielsen (Broadway: Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), Jennifer Van Dyck (Broadway: Hedda Gabler, Dancing at Lughnasa and Two Shakespearean Actors), Quentin Mare (Broadway: Rock 'n' Roll, Coram Boy, Julius Caesar) and Stephanie Janssen (Broadway: Mrs. Warren's Profession). Happy Fourth of July! Just because the rest of the country will be spending Independence Day sipping drinks at the pool, pigging out at family barbeques, and enjoying the day off at home, doesn't mean Broadway will shut down for the holiday - the shows must go on!

As Sonia in Christopher Durang's acclaimed Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, Kristine Nielsen can't help but smack the audience's collective funny bone.

Soon after it won the Tony Award for Best Play, Christopher Durang's new comedy, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike extended its premiere Broadway engagement at the Golden Theatre. With this second and final extension, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike will now end its run Sunday, August 25 (it was originally scheduled to end its run on Sunday, June 30). Now according to the New York Times, it has officially recouped its Broadway investment of $2.75 million. It joins a small list of plays from this season that have recouped, including The Heiress, Glengarry Glen Ross, Lucky Guy, and I'll Eat You Last.

Soon after it won the Tony Award for Best Play, Christopher Durang's new comedy, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike extended its premiere Broadway engagement at the Golden Theatre. With this second and final extension, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike will now end its run Sunday, August 25 (it was originally scheduled to end its run on Sunday, June 30). Now according to Bloomberg, the show is on track to recoup it $2.2 million Broadway investment by the end of the month. Lead producer Joey Parnes commented that it 'might even be sooner.'

The hit off-Broadway comedy, Buyer & Cellar, starring Michael Urie ('Ugly Betty'), written by Jonathan Tolins, and directed by Stephen Brackett, opened last night at the Barrow Street Theatre, and is scheduled to run through September 1 only. The awards honor outstanding achievement in Off Broadway theater for the 2012-2013 season. All recipients will be on hand to receive their awards.

The Off Broadway Alliance, the organization of Off Broadway producers, theaters, general managers, press agents and marketing professionals, will bestow its 2nd Annual Friend of Off Broadway Award to Wayne Sapper and Ken Lubin of King Displays. The Alliance established the Friend of Off Broadway Award to honor the people or organizations that have consistently provided extraordinary generosity, support and expertise to the Off Broadway community. The award will be presented at the 3rd annual Off Broadway Alliance Awards Reception tomorrow, June 18th at 4:30 PM at Sardi's. All of the 2013 honorees will be on hand to receive their awards.

With this second and final extension, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike will now end its run Sunday, August 25 (it was originally scheduled to end its run on Sunday, June 30).
