Shire, Weidman, et al. Honored by National Arts Club

On Sunday, November 14, 2010, The National Arts Club was the site of a Gala evening honoring Richard Maltby, Jr., David Shire and John Weidman. The VIP guests enjoyed cocktails and a repast featuring the culinary artistry of the talented chefs at The National Arts Club. Guests were then entertained with a variety of music by David Shire and Richard Maltby,Jr. with selections from the musicals of Scott Frankel, Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman and performed by Stars of Broadway, Television and Film, including BD Wong, Karen Ziemba, Mario Cantone, Lynne Wintersteller , Julia Lema and Fred Applegate. Memorable Recollections were provided by theatre greats Susan Stroman and Gala honorary Chairs Maury Yeston and Sheldon Harnick. After the awards presentation guests enjoyed Champagne, coffee and a magnificent array of desserts.

The Fred Ebb Foundation (Mitchell Bernard, Trustee) in association with the Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) presented the sixth annual Fred Ebb Award for aspiring musical theatre songwriters to Douglas J. Cohen on November 29. The award, named in honor of the late award-winning lyricist Fred Ebb, was presented by David Thompson (The Scottsboro Boys). Rolex presented Career Transition For Dancers' 25th ANNIVERSARY SILVER JUBILEE: A STAR-STUDDED RETROSPECTIVE at New York City Center, last night, November 8. The evening highlighted magical moments from past glittering galas. Artists from some of America's greatest dance companies performed: Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater; American Ballet Theatre; The Joffrey Ballet; MOMIX; National Dance Institute; and Parsons Dance. Also appearing are Tony Award Winners: Marvin Hamlisch (who wrote a song to premiere at the show), Bebe Neuwirth, Ann Reinking, Chita Rivera, Karen Ziemba with Charlotte d'Amboise, Desmond Richardson and Edward Villella. The entertainment/dance event of the new season had show-stopping Broadway numbers from '42nd Street' and 'Chicago.' The 2010 Rolex Dance Award was presented to Twyla Tharp. The Career Transition For Dancers' Awards for Outstanding Contributions to the World of Dance was presented to the organization's four union founders: Actors' Equity Association, American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, American Guild of Musical Artists, Screen Actors Guild; as well as an award each to The Barth Family and to the CTFD President Cynthia G.
