National Chorale, New York's premiere professional choral company, under the Artistic Direction of Everett McCorvey, announces its 2016-2017 Season at Lincoln Center.  The National Chorale's 49th season begins with A Gershwin Celebration, followed by Beethoven's Symphony #9, then the annual Handel's Messiah Sing-In, and concludes with Mozart's Requiem.  

Houston Grand Opera To Preview IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE In NY

Houston Grand Opera (HGO) will offer New Yorkers a preview performance of excerpts from a new opera based on the classic story and Frank Capra film It's a Wonderful Life on Sunday, November 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the Guggenheim Museum, as part of the museum's Works & Process program. The evening will include a discussion with the composer/librettist team of Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer, moderated by HGO Artistic and Music Director Patrick Summers.

Canton Symphony Orchestra Releases Schedule for 2016-17 Season; Tickets On Sale, 7/18

CANTON, OHIO (July 5, 2016) – The Canton Symphony Orchestra (CSO) will put single tickets for all of their 2016-17 concerts on sale Monday July 18.  “In the past, we've started our single ticket sales in September,” notes President and CEO Michelle Mullaly, “but this year, we didn't see the need to make our patrons wait.”  The season includes 7 MasterWorks concerts, 3 Pops concerts and a Benefit Concert.  Subscriptions for the MasterWorks and Pops Series are also available.

Opera Paralléle and SFJazz Co-Present CHAMPION Tonight

San Francisco's Opera Parallele and SFJAZZ will present their first collaboration: a new, fully staged production of Champion: An Opera in Jazz by Terence Blanchard, SFJAZZ Resident Artistic Director, with eight performances to be given tonight, February 19, through February 28, 2016 at SFJAZZ Center.  Based on the life of African-American, bisexual boxing champion Emile Griffith (1938-2013), the production marks both Opera Parallele's first foray into an operatic jazz idiom and SFJAZZ's first opera. Performances will be given at 7:30 pm Today--Sunday, February 19, 20 and 21; Tuesday and Wednesday, February 23 and 24;  Today and Saturday, February 26 and 27; and at 4 pm Sunday, February 28 and tickets are priced $30-$185. San Francisco, CA, April 9, 2015 – Opera Parallèle has announced its 2015--2016 season, which will feature its first collaboration with SFJAZZ, a new production of Peter Maxwell Davies' riveting and mysterious The Lighthouse, and the world premiere of a new children's opera by Chris Pratorius. Opera Parallèle and SFJAZZ will present their first collaboration: a new, fully staged production of Champion: An Opera in Jazz by Terence Blanchard, SFJAZZ Resident Artistic Director, with eight performances to be given February 19-28, 2016 at SFJAZZ Center. Based on the life of African-American boxing champion Emile Griffith (1938-2013), the production marks both Opera Parallèle's first foray into an operatic jazz idiom and SFJAZZ's first opera. Peter Maxwell Davies' three-character opera, The Lighthouse, based on the mysterious and unsolved disappearance of three people off the Scottish coast in 1900 will be given a new production April 29-May 1, 2016 at Z Space in San Francisco. The season will open with the world premiere of a new children's opera by Chris Pratorius entitled Amazing Grace, featuring San Francisco fourth graders and soloists, November 12-14, 2015, at a venue to be announced. Set in 1969, Dylan Went Electric follows seven characters' interactions in Sully's Tavern, a bar in Greenwich Village. Although he wasn't yet alive to experience it, Colorado playwright Josh Hartwell seemed to really understand the time period, its art and the types of artists who made it.
