The 2017 awards honor productions which opened between October 1, 2016 and September 30, 2017. Nominations were completely reader-submitted and after the nomination period ended October 31, BroadwayWorld's local editors proofed the list for eligibility and errors.

Full casting has been announced for the Mercury Theatre's upcoming production of David Greig's crucial drama The Events, which plays in the Mercury Studio this June. The production features a live community choir and is both timely and poignant, asking how a community can begin to recover from a terrible attack, and begin to embrace otherness once more.
