Prolific playwright A. R. Gurney passed away earlier this summer, at his home in Manhattan. He was 86. His agent Jonathan Lomma confirmed news of his death but did not provide a cause. The writer was best known for such plays as LOVE LETTERS, SYLVIA and THE COCKTAIL HOUR.

The New York Times reports that prolific playwright A. R. Gurney passed away on Tuesday, June 13th at his home in Manhattan. He was 86. His agent Jonathan Lomma confirmed news of his death but did not provide a cause.

Playwrights Horizons presents Rancho Viejo, the world premiere of a new play by Dan LeFranc (The Big Meal at Playwrights, Sixty Miles to Silver Lake, In the Labyrinth) and directed by three-time Obie Award winner Daniel Aukin (Placebo, This at Playwrights; Fool For Love; Bad Jews; 4000 Miles; [sic]). The production opened on December 6 at the company's Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street) and will play through Friday, December 23. First reported by Deadline.com was the sad news that legendary director and writer Arthur Laurents has passed away at 93 years old, dying in his sleep. The Los Angeles Times has added a short statement from Jonathan Lomma, Laurents' agent at William Morris Agency who confirmed his death Thursday, saying that 'he died earlier this evening, peacefully in his sleep, at his home in New York City, after a short illness.'
