The new Broadway play Mothers and Sons from 4-time Tony Award winner Terrence McNally has announced today that it will offer a series of post-show talkbacks in conjunction with the Huffington Post Gay Voices on four consecutive Wednesday evenings (4/9, 4/16, 4/23, 4/30) at the Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street). Special guests will include LGBT activist and journalist David Mixner, attorney Roberta Kaplan, Huffington Post Gay Voices deputy editor Curtis M. Segerstrom Center for the Arts welcomes back JERSEY BOYS, the Tony, Grammy and Olivier Award-winning hit musical about Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, playing in Orange County from June 24 - July 13, 2014. Scenic designer, writer and professor, MARJORIE BRADLEY KELLOGG, and costume designer DEBORAH M. DRYDEN are among the 2014 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards recipients. The awards will be presented at a ceremony on Friday, May 2, at 6:30pm, at the Hudson Theatre (145 West 44th Street). Ms. Kellogg will receive the Robert L.B. Tobin Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatrical Design and Ms. Dryden was selected to receive the 2014 TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for costume design. Ms. Kellogg's award will be presented to her by director Kenny Leon and Ms. Dryden's award will be presented to her by designer David Woolard. (more...)

Producers Howard & Janet Kagan (Pippin, The Gershwins' Porgy & Bess) just announced that a new Broadway revival of ON THE TOWN - the musical-comedy love letter to New York City - will open in October 2014 at the Lyric Theatre. This year marks the 70thanniversary of the opening of this iconic musical comedy created by the legendary creative team of Leonard Bernstein, Betty Comden, Adolph Green, and Jerome Robbins. The Lyric Theatre will be reopened after a renovation being completed by its new owners, Ambassador Theatre Group. This historic theater at the crossroads of 42nd Street and Times Square was created from a combination of the original Apollo Theater, and the original Lyric Theatre that stood on the site, and the facade of which still stands on 42nd and 43rd Streets. BWW Reviews: JERSEY BOYS is a Blast at the Fox Theatre

I don't think there's any "jukebox musical" that's as entertaining and interesting as JERSEY BOYS, and there are a lot of musicals out there that rely on classic rock, pop, country and blues for their score. What sets JERSEY BOYS apart from the rest is the fact that it actually has a story to tell (book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice), and it integrates these timeless tunes seamlessly (music by Bob Gaudio and lyrics by Bob Crewe, although a plethora of other songwriters contribute as well) by examining how they were created and recorded. The current touring production playing the Fabulous Fox Theatre is a nostalgic blast that's sharply performed and staged. (more...)

West End's JERSEY BOYS Celebrates 2,500th Performance Tomorrow

JERSEY BOYS celebrates its 2,500th performance in London tomorrow, Thursday 20 February 2014, at the Prince Edward Theatre, where it opened in 2008. Its last performance there will be on Sunday 9 March, and then it moves to the Piccadilly Theatre, opening there on Saturday 15 March. The show will celebrate its 6th Birthday in London on 18 March. The musical has now been seen by over 19 million people worldwide and is firmly established as one of the West End's longest running and most popular shows.
