EW.com reports today that Allison Janney will be joining Viola Davis in the DreamWorks upcoming film adaption of The Help. The Emmy winner and 9-5 alum will play the role of Charlotte Phelan - mother of heroine Skeeter Phelan - in the film, based on the book by Kathryn Stockett.

This past weekend, Elaine Stritch performed her 'Singin' Sondheim' cabaret in West Hartford, CT. As reported by the Hartford Courant, the A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC-bound star was simultaneously in private rehearsals with director Trevor Nunn. According to the report, Stritch and Peters were in New York working on scenes with Nunn, who then rode to Hartford with Stritch to continue discussions over the two-hour car ride. They continued work at the Roberts Theatre, the same space Stritch performed 'Singin' Sondheim' that evening. Jeremy Cohen, associate artistic director of Hartford Stage, is quoted as saying that watching Stritch and Nunn 'was like [being] a kid in a candy shop ... He's definitely an actor's director and listening them talk about Sondheim was incredible. It's as if they had been working together for decades because they spoke in the common vocabulary of Sondheim.'

Gossip Girl actor Chace Crawford is the newest cast member to join filmmaker Bruce Beresford's Peace, Love, & Misunderstanding. Director/Actor Andréas Voutsinas, best known to audiences for his role as Carmen Ghia in the 1968 Mel Brooks comedy 'The Producers,' has passed away at 79. Voutsinas died in Athens on Tuesday.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Tony nominee Jane Fonda will star alongside Catherine Keener in the upcoming indie film 'Peace, Love, and Understanding,' to be directed by Bruce Beresford.

TV Land announced today that it has greenlit 10 episodes of the original sitcom 'Retired At 35' starring esteemed comedy and drama actor George Segal. The sitcom is a TV Land PRIME original production and is the network's second venture into scripted comedy series along with 'Hot in Cleveland,' which premieres on June 16, 2010. Chris Case ('Reba,' 'Spin City') is the writer for 'Retired at 35' and serves as an executive producer. Michael Hanel and Mindy Schultheis ('Rita Rocks,' 'Reba,' 'Titus') are also executive producers.
