After a hugely successful sold out run last year, CASA 0101 Theater is proud to present the fifth season of BROWN & OUT FEST, A Festival of 11 World Premiere Short Plays and One Original Short Transgender Film Celebrating the LBGTQ LatinXperience.

SISTER ACT, the Musical, the Tony Award nominated show based on the 1992 Touchstone Pictures hit film of the same name, features music written by eight-time Academy Award, seven-time Golden Globe, 11-time Grammy Award and Tony Award-winning composer, Alan Menken, with lyrics by Glenn Slater and Book by Cheri Steinkellner and Bill Steinkellner, with additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane, The musical was originally directed by Peter Schneider. The musical will be coming to CASA 0101 Theater, 2102 East First Street (at St. Louis Street), Boyle Heights, CA 90033, April 19 - May 19, 2019. Opening Nights is Friday, April 19, 2019 at 8:00 p.m. Previews are April 12 - 14, 2019.

Josefina Lopez, Founding Artistic Director of CASA 0101 Theater in Boyle Heights, CA announced today that her theater will stay open into 2019. Earlier in the year, in January 2018 she announced that her theater was in danger of closing its doors due to financial hardships. Lopez said today, "We are in a better place financially now in December 2018, than we were back at the beginning of the year. We still aren't out of the woods yet, but we are getting there.'

The venerable playwright Josefina Lopez is will be tapping into new ground as a writer with her latest collaborative work, the World Premiere of REMEMBERING BOYLE HEIGHTS, an audience participatory, immersive and theatrical celebration, created and devised by Josefina Lopez, Corky Dominguez and the REMEMBERING BOYLE HEIGHTS Ensemble. Contemporary gentrification debates unlock the early history, stories and memories of Boyle Heights revealing the mythical and human dimensions of L.A.'s own Ellis Island of the West.

Emmanuel Deleage, Executive Director of Josefina Lopez's CASA 0101 Theater announced today that the theater will stay open till the end of the year, at which time the theater's fate will be re-evaluated.

Discounted Preview performances will be presented on May 4, 5 and 6, 2018. Press Opening Night is Today, May 11, 2018.

GILBERT VALENZUELA JR. - A Celebration of Life, an event celebrating the life of the late Gilbert Valenzuela Jr., 41, a resident of Los Angeles, CA will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018, his brother, Anthony Goytia, and sister, Vallery Goytia, announced today. The siblings will host the memorial service.

Josefina Lopez, Founding Artistic Director of CASA 0101 Theater in Boyle Heights, CA announced today that CASA 0101 Theater has reached about a third of its current Fundraising Campaign to keep the theater's doors open. "We're about a third of the way there. To date, we have secured 102 financial donors of our targeted goal of 350 donors we are seeking to support us by June 2018, so we can continue to keep our theater's doors open by presenting quality productions and supporting our local community through education. Each of our secured donors is pledging $25 a month on an ongoing annual basis to support CASA 0101. If you believe in what we are doing, please support us now."

Dan Guerrero, the award-winning producer, director, writer and actor was honored for his activism and support of the LBGTQ+ community with the first ever CASA 0101 Theater Brown & Out Inspiration Award prior to Opening Night performance of CASA 0101 Theater's "Brown & Out IV" Play Festival celebrating the LGBTQ+ Latinexperience on Friday, February 9, 2018. The award was presented by Corky Dominguez, a director, writer and producer of "Brown & Out IV." Edward Padilla, President of CASA 0101 Theater, read a Certificate of Recognition from Assemblymember Miguel Santiago, 53rd District of Los Angeles, for Dan Guerrero and then presented it to him on behalf of the Assemblymember.
