Brevard Symphony Presents Annual Pops Concert HOORAY FOR HOLLYWOOD

The Brevard Symphony Orchestra invites film fans of all ages to celebrate the music of Hollywood when the Orchestra takes the stage for the BSO's POPS concert on Saturday, February 18th at the King Center for the Performing Arts.  The BSO presents Hooray for Hollywood and will feature thrilling movie music from Elmer Bernstein's scores to The Magnificent Seven and To Kill a Mockingbird along with the title song to one of Hollywood's greatest movie musicals, Singin' in the Rain. The Orchestra will also pay tribute to John Williams on the occasion of the composer's 85th birthday with a performance of his music from Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The program also includes music from Forrest Gump, James Bond and more.

"Moana" star Auli'i Cravalho will make her Hawai'i Symphony Orchestra  (HSO) debut in "A Night on the Red Carpet" on Friday, February 17 at 7:30 pm. Featuring a parade of hits under the direction of Maestro Richard Kaufman, "A Night on the Red Carpet" brings to life unforgettable film scores. The voice of Moana in the Disney blockbuster, Cravalho will perform "How Far I'll Go," written by Lin-Manuel Miranda and recently nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song. The HSO is thrilled to welcome Cravalho in this concert event that also showcases music from the award-winning soundtracks to "Gone with the Wind," "The Witches of Eastwick," "Forrest Gump," and many more. The Granada Theatre Film Series continues this December with two globally iconic films screened on the theater's 4k digital cinema system. Part of the Elmer Bernstein Memorial Film Series, and based on the Tennessee Williams play of the same name, Summer and Smoke will screen on Monday, December 5, 2016. The And The Band Played On Film Series follows on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 with the screening of Zucchero: Una Rosa Blanca, a powerful film documenting one of the largest and most popular music-concert performances in Cuban history.

BWW Review: Michigan Philharmonic Phright Night A Huge Success

The Michigan Philharmonic performed its annual Phright Night concert last Saturday at the PARC in Plymouth; as always, it was a huge success. The symphony harvested some scary tunes at its beloved Halloween POPS concert.  Maestro Nan Washburn entered the building on her motorized scooter, drawing thunderous applause from patrons. She opened the concert using a large wooden spoon as her conductor's baton, then quickly switched it out with a professional one.  The selections were wonderful, and very much a treat for the ears.

The Santa Barbara Symphony, under the baton of Maestro Nir Kabaretti, will usher in the year 2016 with a rousing New Year's Eve pops concert at the historic Granada Theatre in downtown Santa Barbara. Featuring a guest appearance by award-winning soprano Lisa Vroman, and a program of popular classics and favorites from stage and screen, the performance will begin at 8:30 pm. Santa Barbara Symphony & Ensemble Theatre Company to Pay Tribute to Shakespeare

The Santa Barbara Symphony, in collaboration with the acclaimed Ensemble Theatre Company (ETC), will present a musical and theatrical tribute to William Shakespeare at the historic Granada Theatre on November 14 and 15. Featuring the full Symphony, under the baton of Maestro Nir Kabaretti, 'Shakespeare Set to Music' will include the Suite from William Walton's lush film score for As You Like It, Prokofiev's unforgettable Romeo and Juliet Suite, and Mendelssohn's vivid incidental music for A Midsummer Night's Dream, with its instantly recognizable Wedding March. The latter work will accompany scenes from the play featuring ETC artists. Performances will take place at 8 pm on Saturday, November 15, and at 3 pm on Sunday, November 15. Tickets are now available.
