Creative director Eduardo Vilaro succeeded admirably in capturing the spirit and vivacity of the Latino spirit. In melding contemporary and classical dance styles to create poetic story-telling pieces, Ballet Hispanico's performance brought the crowd to their feet.

Chicago Opera Theater's Chicago Stage Premiere production of Astor Piazzolla's MARÍA DE BUENOS AIRES evokes Argentina's 'Dirty War', the period between 1976 and 1983 when the country was governed by military juntas which controlled the populace through state-sponsored terrorism. This 'tango operita' is of stunning originality, pulsing to the passion and beat of Astor Piazzolla's revolutionary 'nuevo tango' and Horacio Ferrer's mesmerizing, imaginative poetry. Chicago Opera Theater's production is a collaboration with Chicago's Luna Negra Dance Theater at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, 205 E. Randolph Drive, and runs for four performances only: tonight, April 20; Wednesday, April 24; Friday, April 26; and Sunday, April 28.

Today, at Dance/NYC's Symposium, the annual gathering of the dance field in the metropolitan area, Dance/NYC and Dance/USA, the national service organization for professional dance, jointly discuss Dance/NYC's evolution from a branch of Dance/USA to a New York State-registered not-for-profit corporation.

Jorge Solis, Board President for Luna Negra Dance Theater, Chicago's only contemporary dance company devoted to the Latino choreographic voice, announces today that Esther Jeles has been named as Luna Negra's new Executive Director, effective immediately. Jeles, 51, has been a business consultant for 19 years and has worked throughout North America as an executive coach, workshop leader and professional speaker. Jeles replaces Joanna Naftali, who left Luna Negra at the close of 2012 to pursue other career opportunities.

On Monday, April 8, 2013, Ballet Hispanico will celebrate the legacy of its School of Dance, and proudly honor Randy Falco, President & CEO of Univision Communications, with its Civic Inspiration Award at the annual Spring Gala in The Plaza Hotel's Grand Ballroom. The Joyce Theater announced the programming for its 2013 Spring/Summer Season featuring extraordinary international companies, including two festivals, one focusing on Nordic dance and the other on American ballet choreographers.

Ballet Hispanico will join other entertainers to headline 'In Performance at the Kennedy Center,' an event honoring the presidential inauguration and Latino arts and culture, on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at 7pm. Actress Eva Longoria will host the evening.

The Junior Society of Ballet Hispanico, the nation's premier Latino dance organization, hosted its annual Junior Society Benefit, Dance Into Fashion, at The Jane Ballroom on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 8pm. The wildly successful evening included over 200 guests and raised $60,000.
