BWW Reviews: Ballet Hispanico Brings the Audience to Their Feet

Ballet Hispanico, committed to celebrating Latino culture through dance, performed a diverse repertory exhibiting three unique selections. Creative director Eduardo Vilaro succeeded admirably in capturing the spirit and vivacity of the Latino spirit. In melding contemporary and classical dance styles to create poetic story-telling pieces, Ballet Hispanico's performance brought the crowd to their feet.

Chicago Opera Theater Presents MARÍA DE BUENOS AIRES, Now thru 4/28

Chicago Opera Theater's Chicago Stage Premiere production of Astor Piazzolla's MARÍA DE BUENOS AIRES evokes Argentina's 'Dirty War', the period between 1976 and 1983 when the country was governed by military juntas which controlled the populace through state-sponsored terrorism. This 'tango operita' is of stunning originality, pulsing to the passion and beat of Astor Piazzolla's revolutionary 'nuevo tango' and Horacio Ferrer's mesmerizing, imaginative poetry. Chicago Opera Theater's production is a collaboration with Chicago's Luna Negra Dance Theater at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, 205 E. Randolph Drive, and runs for four performances only: tonight, April 20; Wednesday, April 24; Friday, April 26; and Sunday, April 28.

Luna Negra Announces New Executive Director

Jorge Solis, Board President for Luna Negra Dance Theater, Chicago's only contemporary dance company devoted to the Latino choreographic voice, announces today that Esther Jeles has been named as Luna Negra's new Executive Director, effective immediately. Jeles, 51, has been a business consultant for 19 years and has worked throughout North America as an executive coach, workshop leader and professional speaker. Jeles replaces Joanna Naftali, who left Luna Negra at the close of 2012 to pursue other career opportunities.

The Junior Society of Ballet Hispanico, the nation's premier Latino dance organization, hosted its annual Junior Society Benefit, Dance Into Fashion, at The Jane Ballroom on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 8pm. The wildly successful evening included over 200 guests and raised $60,000.
