Aurora Theatre Company Stages THE LETTERS, Now thru 5/25

Aurora Theatre Company presents its first fully staged production in the company's second stage performance space, Harry's UpStage. Award-winning Bay Area auteur Mark Jackson returns to the company to direct this sixth addition to the season, the Professional Bay Area Premiere of John W. Lowell's suspenseful psychological thriller THE LETTERS, featuring Beth Wilmurt (The Eccentricities of a Nightingale) and Michael Ray Wisely (The Arsonists). THE LETTERS plays today, April 17 through May 25 at Harry's UpStage, located in the Nell and Jules Dashow Wing at the Aurora Theatre in Berkeley. (more...)

BWW Reviews: RACE Gets Under the Skin

Race, David Mamet's incendiary exploration of truth and lies provoked by racial identity and expectation, has just completed its first week at Trustus Side Door Theatre, in collaboration with the NiA Company. Happily for Columbia audiences, it runs for another week, allowing continued opportunity for this production to provoke and bestir. Staged here in the small, spare environment of a black box theatre, Race is a decidedly adult drama underscored by barbed wit and suspense, and its enforced intimate setting creates a hothouse urgency that literally does not allow one to look away. Attention, as has been famously said in other theatre contexts, must be paid. (more...)

Aurora Theatre Company Extends THE LETTERS Through 6/1

Due to popular pre-sale demand, Aurora Theatre Company announces that it will add an additional week of performances of John W. Lowell's suspenseful psychological thriller THE LETTERS, the first fully staged production in the company's second stage performance space, Harry's UpStage. Award-winning Bay Area auteur Mark Jackson (The Arsonists, Salomania) returns to the company to direct this sixth addition to the season, featuring Beth Wilmurt (The Eccentricities of a Nightingale) and Michael Ray Wisely (The Arsonists). The Old Globe today announced that two-time Golden Globe Award nominee Blair Underwood-who most recently made his acclaimed Broadway debut in the iconic role of Stanley in Tennessee Williams's A Streetcar Named Desire and garnered rave reviews opposite Cicely Tyson in Lifetime's The Trip to Bountiful-will make his Globe debut in the title role of Shakespeare's classic tragedy Othello, the first show of the Globe's 2014 Summer Shakespeare Festival. Underwood's films include Something New, Deep Impact, Gattaca, and Rules of Engagement, and his television credits include 'Ironside,' 'In Treatment,' 'The New Adventures of Old Christine,' and 'Sex and the City.'
