Opera Colorado Announces Upcoming Productions - MADAMA BUTTERFLY, THE MAGIC FLUTE, and More

Opera Colorado announced today that it will present Giacomo Puccini's Madama Butterfly(November 2014), W.A. Mozart's The Magic Flute (May 2015), Giuseppe Verdi's Aida (November 2015), and the world premiere of Lori Laitman's The Scarlet Letter (May 2016) starring Elizabeth Futral as Hester Prynne. A vital presence in Denver's cultural ecology, Opera Colorado is the Rocky Mountain region's preeminent grand opera company. The Opera's programming includes mainstage productions, artist development initiatives, and education and community engagement programming. (more...)

AOP (American Opera Projects), and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture will co-present an evening of scenes from Nkeiru Okoye's folk opera Harriet Tubman: When I Crossed That Line to Freedom that tells of how a young girl born in slavery, becomes Harriet Tubman, the legendary Underground Railroad conductor. The musical excerpts will be followed by an artist Q&A moderated by WQXR's Terrance McKnight. The concert will be presented today, December 9, 2013 at 6:30 PM at the Langston Hughes Auditorium: 515 Malcolm X Boulevard, New York, NY 10037-1801. (more...)

VocalEssence Moves Performance Location Due to Unresolved Labor Disputes of Minnesota Orchestra

VocalEssence announces today that it is moving the first concert of its 45th season, There Was a Child, to Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. The concert will still be held at its original time, on Sun., Oct. 27 at 4 p.m., and the 3 p.m. Concert Conversation with MPR's John Birge and composer Jonathan Dove will still take place before the performance. Cheasapeake Shakespeare Company's Managing Director, Lesley Malin, was elected Vice President of the Shakespeare Theatre Association at the 2011 conference held in Boulder, Colorado this January.
