Bickford Summer JAZZFEST Announced for July and August

Great music and great food always seem perfect together so for Bickford Summer Jazzfest the theatre will serve up great swing and hot jazz with some of the region's best Food Trucks on-site before each concert. Different food trucks will be at each show so that both ticket holders and the general public can picnic on the beautiful Morris Museum grounds or tailgate in the spacious parking area from 5:00 to 7:30 on festival nights.

The legendary jazz musician Bix Beiderbecke will be celebrated by cornetist Mike Davis and his all-star group with our popular Bix Beiderbecke Birthday Bash on Monday, March 13, at 8:00 p.m. Joining Davis will be Dan Levinson on clarinet, Joe McDonough on trombone, Jared Engel on banjo, Dalton Ridenhour on piano, Jay Rattman on bass saxophone, and Jay Lepley on drums.

Award-winning music producer, critic and translator Lawrence Schulman will give a talk on Judy Garland, entitled 'Moments of Magic,' at the Northeast Harbor Library (Maine) on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 5 P.M. Admission is free. The one-and-a-quarter hour talk will examine Judy Garland's life and career, and feature nine audio-video clips, to be followed by a question and answer. Schulman will endeavor to answer the question: 'If I had just one hour to convince you of Judy Garland's place in classic American popular music, what film and television performances would I choose?' The talk will be followed by a mini-concert of songs Garland sang by famed jazz vocalist Diane Linscott and the equally renowned pianist Scott Cleveland.

BWW Review: The Revelatory Cy Walter Centennial Celebration Is Immensely Entertaining at The Cutting Room

Sunday night, Mark Walter topped off a year of Herculean accomplishment in preserving his father's legacy with a concert at the Cutting Room that went off like fireworks. Somewhere, composer /lyricist/arranger/pianist Cy Walter (right in Lloyd Diaz photo), was beaming. In 2015, Mark completed his father's discography filed with The Library of Congress, created a spanking new website, established The Cy Walter Foundation, and put out a two CD package of pre-1950's music with Harbinger Records. The Sunday concert, with expert Musical Direction by the inimitable Tedd Firth, was an opportunity not only to salute a multifaceted talent, but also for many, including Mark (photo below left), to hear songs that haven't been performed for 60 or 70 years.

The Morris Museum continues its popular Jazz Showcase concert series with two performances in August 2015. On Monday, August 17, the Museum will welcome world-renowned double bassist and jazz vocalist Nicki Parrott. In addition, on Monday, August 24, pianist Mark Shane will return to the Bickford Theatre for a night of swinging numbers.
