Kravis Center Announces Winners of Third Annual Dream Awards

Drum roll please! The winners of the third annual Kravis Center's Dream Awards have been announced. Over 120 students from 12 high schools competed for the opportunity to make it to the Broadway stage.

Chasing Jack, the award-winning play by John S. Anastasi, will have its southeastern premiere at the Willow Theatre in Sugar Sand Park. The production, directed by Peter J. Loewy, and starring two-time Tony Award-nominated actress Crista Moore will begin previews on March 12th and open on March 14th. The show will run through March 22nd.

The 1990 Tony Award for Best Revival awarded to producer Barry Brown for Gypsy sold last night for $26,798 at Nate D. Sanders Auctions. The musical Gypsy, with lyrics written by Stephen Sondheim, premiered in 1959. The play was critically acclaimed and is considered by many critics to be the greatest musical of all-time.

This month, UNPLUGGED will welcome just announced guests George Lee Andrews and Harvey Evans, as well as special guests Dee Hoty, Pamela Myers, Sarah Rice & Alice Ripley. The cast also includes cabaret and Broadway veterans Trent Armand Kendall (Broadway's Smokey Joe's Cafe, Into the Woods),Award-winning vocal group Marquee 5, T. Oliver Reid (Broadway's Sister Act, The Color Purple), Julie Reyburn(MAC/Bistro/Nightlife Award winner) and Lucia Spina (Broadway's Kinky Boots, South Pacific). Sondheim Unpluggedis hosted by 54 Below's Director of Original Programming, Phil Geoffrey Bond, with Musical Direction by Joe Goodman. In 2011, Sondheim Unplugged received the 2011 Bistro Award for Outstanding Cabaret Series, and was nominated for the 2011 MAC Award.

THE ADDAMS FAMILY Cast to Host Dance Class, 4/18

The PlayhouseSquare is set to welcome the bizarre and beloved THE ADDAMS FAMILY national tour from April 10 through the 22. During its run at the Palace Theatre, the cast of the production will be offering a master dance class, teaching locals the moves and routine to the show's opening number. Participants must be advanced level high school or college students, or local professional artists. Ages 14 and up only, please. Others are welcome to observe. Participation is free, however, advance registration is required.
