BWW Review: Alfred's BROWN TALE Is Very Chicago and Very Funny
by Perry Tannenbaum
- Sep 20, 2017
Notwithstanding the lingering leeriness I feel about going to see them, one-person shows can be memorable and truly special. Billy Crystal's 700 Sundays, Frank Gorshin's Say Goodnight, Gracie and Colin Quinn's Long Story Short stand out as the best that I've seen by men, while I'd point to Julie Harris's Belle of Amherst, Lily Tomlin's The Search for Intelligent Life in the Universe, and Tova Feldshuh's Golda's Balcony as the best by women - plus two more at Spoleto this year, Avital Lvova's Angel and Ayodele Casel's While I Have the Floor.

Whether he's delivering killer comedy at an intimate nightclub, giving acclaimed performances on HBO's Girls and in Judd Apatow's Trainwreck, or performing live in his widely lauded, Jerry Seinfeld directed hit Broadway shows, Colin Quinn has proven himself a master of comedic observation and storytelling. This December, Quinn who is apparently refusing to leave the business brings his sly wit and unique perspective to A.C.T.'s Strand Theater in the San Francisco debut of his all-new stand-up show, One in Every Crowd. Showcasing his distinctive brand of razor-sharp and intelligent comedy, One in Every Crowd proves that there's always one person in every group situation who ruins everything! The first of several solo-storytellers presented under A.C.T.'s @TheStrand series, One in Every Crowd performs for five performances only December 14 17, 2017. The performance schedule is as follows: Thursday, December 14 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, December 15 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, December 16 at 7:30 p.m. & 9:30 p.m.; and Sunday, December 17 at 2 p.m.
