The 2018 SaraSolo Festival, the fourth celebration of theatre and solo artists, was held January 27-February 4, 2018. This annual theater festival features an eclectic mix of 45-90-minute solo performances by national and international artists - featuring music, dance, cabaret, comedy, magic, poetry, performance art, stand-up, storytelling and visual art creation as well as biographical, autobiographical and poetic plays.
Genre-Spanning Guitar Virtuoso Gary Clark Jr. Tour Confirms May - June U.S. Tour

Gary Clark Jr., Grammy Award-winning, genre-spanning guitar virtuoso has confirmed his first tour of 2018, which begins in Lafayette, LA on May 31. Clark and company will crisscross the country and conclude with four consecutive shows at The Fillmore in San Francisco, CA on June 22. Fan Club ticket pre-sales begin February 7 at 10:00 A.M. local time. General ticket on-sale begins February 9 at 10:00 A.M. local time. Black Ensemble Theater opens its 2018 Season (Movers and Shakers) with Hail, Hail Chuck: A Tribute to Chuck Berry, written by L. Maceo Ferris a senior member of the Black Ensemble Theater's BPI (Black Playwrights Initiative) and directed by Black Ensemble Theater Associate Director Daryl D. Brooks. Hail, Hail Chuck: A Tribute to Chuck Berry will be performed at the Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center, 4450 N. Clark Street in Chicago, February 17 - April 1, 2018. The press opening is scheduled for Sunday, February 25 at 3 p.m.

When Sister Rosetta Tharpe's name appeared on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Ballot, there were many who thought, Sister who? Little did those not familiar with the history of the genre, know that 'she was wailing on the guitar before Chuck Berry, shouting call and response before Little Richard, and swaying rhythmically to the music long before Elvis shook his hips.' In fact, Elvis may have learned his slim hip swiveling from the Sister Rosetta's pelvis thrusts.
