Wingspan Pictures' President Rachel Diana and CEO K. Rocco Shields announced today the appointment of Executive Producer Franco Sama of Samaco Films as Executive in Charge of Motion Pictures and Television. Sama is the latest addition to Wingspan's successful production team. Sama is a seasoned producer whose recent films include 'Guns, Girls & Gambling' starring Gary Oldman and Christian Salter, and 'Petunia' starring Thora Birch, Christine Lahti and Brittany Snow. 'We are embarking on a new venture by opening the Entertainment Division and are thrilled that Franco has come on board bringing his extensive knowledge, passion and expertise,' said Diana. Among the first projects Sama will executive produce for Wingspan is 'Love Is All You Need.' 'Love' is based on a short film of the same name that went viral on the internet, garnering more than three million hits. Attached to star are teen heartthrob Kellan Lutz (Twilight Series) and four time 'Young Artist Award' nominee Camilla Belle. Currently in pre-production, 'Love' is scheduled to begin shooting this fall. Sama said today 'It is appropriate that this partnership is being launched during the 4th of July week because I think that, together, we are going to set off fireworks throughout the industry.'

This morning, the Supreme Court declared that legislation which says marriage must be between a man and a woman is unconstitutional, thus allowing homosexual couples to receive the same benefits as heterosexual couples. The Court also struck down California's Proposition 8. Playwright and screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, who won an Oscar for his MILK screenplay and penned the play '8' about California's ban on same-sex marriage, commented on today's Supreme Court rulings.

The Old Globe today announced the cast and creative team for the Globe's revival of N. Richard Nash's classic romantic comedyThe Rainmaker. Directed by Maria Mileaf, The Rainmaker will run July 13 - August 11, 2013 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run July 13 - July 17. On Monday, May 13 Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for Theatre honored Ruth and Stephen Hendel and Ming Cho Lee at their Gala Evening. The evening was held at the Angel Orensanz Foundation (172 Norfolk Street) in New York City, cocktails started at 6pm and dinner started at 7pm. Jessica Hecht was the emcee of the evening; the Gala co-chairs were playwright Lydia R. Diamond and interior designer Jasmine M. Keller. The Gala honorary chairs were Anne Kaufman, Obie award-winning director; Nelle Nugent, Broadway producer; Judith O. Rubin, chairman of the board of Playwrights Horizons; and Liz Smith, gossip columnist. The event hosted 200 guests and surpassed its financial goal. Scroll down for photos from the gala!

Sundance Institute today announced filmmaker Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station) will be honored with theVanguard Award, presented by Tiffany & Co. Actress Kerry Washington will present the award to Coogler at the third annual 'Celebrate Sundance Institute' benefit on June 5, 2013 in Los Angeles. As previously announced, the benefit will also honor the life and work of beloved journalist and film critic Roger Ebert with the Vanguard Leadership Award in Memoriam, in recognition of his advocacy of independent cinema. The award will be presented by Sundance Institute President and Founder Robert Redford and accepted by Ebert's wife, Chaz Ebert.
