BWW Reviews: Black Rep's Excellent Production of ON GOLDEN POND
by Chris Gibson - Jan 17, 2012

I remember seeing the movie version of ON GOLDEN POND, and though it's very well done, it's awfully mawkish and sentimental. I've kind of avoided the movie ever since, just because I really didn't feel like having a cry fest. But, the actual play by Ernest Thompson is surprisingly amusing and touching, and rarely goes overboard on the sentimentality. The Black Rep's current production is a very entertaining, moving, and funny presentation buoyed by the performances of an excellent cast.

The Black Rep Presents THE MONTFORD POINT MARINE 5/25-6/26
by Harrison Kaplan - Jun 5, 2011

The day of July 10th, 1993 marks a special moment for Robert Charles Wilson. 50 years ago he enlisted to become a Marine at Montford Point. He proudly served his country in WWII at Iwo Jima and after exiting the service trained as a classical opera singer. But his only shortcoming in life was separating from his wife, Gwen, when she refused to chase his dream of becoming a famous singer. With their only son R.C. in town to celebrate the anniversary of his father's enlistment, this day brings a wave of memories back to Robert, along with a few unexpected turns in this World Premiere theatre event.

BWW Reviews; The Black Rep Brings Their Season to a Close with Lively Production of THE ME NOBODY KNOWS
by Chris Gibson - Jun 14, 2010

THE ME NOBODY KNOWS is a musical plea for understanding by a group of underprivileged children that's set in one of the poorer neighborhoods of New York City. It's an indictment of our current social and economic conditions that this show, written in 1970, explores themes and issues that still resonate with audiences today. The current production by the Black Rep is a rousing and entertaining show that features a young and talented cast.

BWW Reviews: Imaginary Theatre Company Present Intriguing and Entertaining Production of AMELIA EARHART at the MO History Museum
by Chris Gibson - Mar 21, 2010

History books, at least when I was growing up, devoted only a sidebar to pioneering aviatrix AMELIA EARHART, although today her life has become the subject of many books, movies and television specials that seek to shed light on her mysterious disappearance in 1937 during an attempt to fly around the globe. The Imaginary Theatre Company is presenting Kathryn Schultz Miller's play about this adventurous pilot at the Missouri History Museum (through March 28, 2010), and it's an intriguing show that will gives audiences young and old something to think about.

REVIEW: Imaginary Theatre Company Brings Wonderfully Entertaining Production of BAH! HUMBUG! to the Loretto-Hilton Stage
by Chris Gibson - Dec 21, 2009

For my last undertaking of 2009, my family and I attended the Imaginary Theatre Company's presentation of a modern re-telling of Charles Dickens' classic tale, A Christmas Carol, called BAH! HUMBUG!. A terrific cast really enlivens Jack Herrick's tuneful score and clever script, providing a wonderfully entertaining production that's perfect for children and adults, and acting as a fitting close to my own holiday theatrical odyssey.
