On Monday, May 10, 2010, New Repertory Theatre will hold its 2010 Gala-our biggest party and fundraiser or the year! Funds raised support New Repertory Theatre's efforts throughout the year, including in-school performances with our program New Rep On Tour.

During an interview with Graham Norton (who was standing in for Chris Evans) on BBC Radio 2 Debbie Reynolds said she is in talks to replace Angela Lansbury in A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC.

Tthe 55th Annual Drama Desk Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at the F.H. LaGuardia Concert Hall at Lincoln Center. Former Drama Desk Award winner Patti LuPone will host the awards ceremony.

In honor of Margaret Wise Brown's 100th Birthday, The InterSchool Orchestra of New York (ISO) (www.isorch.org) in association with GPR Records (Glen Roven, Peter Fitzgerald, Richard Cohen, artistic directors) have announced a live concert based on Brown's two best selling children's books Goodnight Moon and Runaway Bunny.

On THE VIEW Today, when asked about the prospect of her appearing on stage, Gwyneth Paltrow (who was on promoting her new movie, IRON MAN) said that it's something she'd like to do but 'not right now.' She then turned to THE VIEW co-host Whoopi Goldberg and expressed a desire for Whoopi to return to the stage. Paltrow's name (and her mother - Blythe Danner) had been bandied around as a rumored replacements for Catherine Zeta-Jones and Angela Lansbury in A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC.

Like Lansbury and Zeta-Jones, all of the performers have either originated Sondheim characters or performed them in notable revivals. As a group, the gala's performers have appeared in more than 75 Sondheim shows. The gala, directed by Tony Award winner John Doyle, highlighted numbers from shows for which Sondheim has written both music and lyrics, and featured a full orchestra conducted by Encores! Music Director Rob Berman. The benefit will help fund New York City Center's artistic and education programs. In addition, a portion of the evening's proceeds will go to Young Playwrights Inc, a charity of great importance to Sondheim.

Outer Critics Circle, the organization of writers covering New York theatre for out-of-town newspapers, national publications and other media beyond Broadway publicly announced the nominees for the 2009-10 season on Monday, April 26th at the historic Algonquin Hotel. Outer Critics Circle posted award nominations in 23 categories and are the first major Broadway/Off-Broadway award nominees of the New York theater season. Matthew White's production of Sweet Charity, which completed its sell-out run at the Menier Chocolate Factory last month, will open at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on 23 April 2010 with press night on 4 May and is currently booking until 8 January 2011.

The 76th Annual Drama League Awards Ceremony and Luncheon will take place on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 12:00pm at the Grand Ballroom of the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square. The event will be co-hosted by Vanessa Williams (Sondheim on Sondheim) and Michael Urie (The Temperamentals).
