The Growing Stage, The Children's Theatre of New Jersey, located in the Historic Palace Theatre on Route 183 in Netcong, New Jersey is proud to present the holiday classic A CHRISTMAS CAROL the Musical from November 20th through December 20th with performances Friday evenings at 7:30 PM, Saturday and Sunday matinees at 4:00 PM. A CHRISTMAS CAROL the Musical is based on the story by Charles Dickens with music by Alan Menken (Disney's The Little Mermaid), lyrics by Lynn Ahrens (Seussical) and book by Mike Ockrent and Lynn Ahrens. A CHRISTMAS CAROL the Musical is under the direction of Stephen L. Fredericks, The Growing Stage's Executive Director with choreography by Jillian Petrie and musical direction by Melinda Bass O'Neill.

Premiere Stages at Kean University, in partnership with the Matheny Medical and Educational Center, presented Plays by People, an evening of original works by the talented playwrights of Matheny's Arts Access Program, on March 28 at the Robert Schonhorn Arts Center in Peapack. Kean University's Department of Theatre will present The Lover, a little-known gem by British heavyweight Harold Pinter, in Kean's Zella Fry Theatre April 4 - 12. In this sly and masterful one-act, a husband and wife play games, making up the rules as they go along, and taking on lovers while exploiting each other's weaknesses. A deft exploration of the conventional roles of marriage and the hetero-normal relationship of 'husband and wife,' The Lover follows married couple Richard and Sarah as they struggle for balance and control, each bending the rules and risking instability as they come dangerously close to destruction.

Premiere Stages will present the winner of its 2013 Play Festival, The Beautiful Dark by Erik Gernand, September 5th through 22nd in the Zella Fry Theatre at Kean University. Selected from 400 submissions, this affecting new play tackles a subject ripped straight from the headlines. A woman's life is turned upside down when she suspects that her teenage son may be planning an attack on a school. Is her son capable of the unthinkable? And if she's wrong, will she ruin any chance he has at a normal life? A powerful and thought-provoking new play, The Beautiful Dark is a topical, non-political examination of a topic that haunts the American psyche.

Adapted by Mary Zimmerman from the translation of The Odyssey by Robert Fitzgerald, the play is based on the ancient Greek poem by Homer. With both irreverent humor and epic drama, the Kean production depicts the journey of Odysseus, whose journey encounters him with such mythical characters as Circe, Poseidon, Zeus, Hermes and the Sirens.

Kean University Players on Tour will present A Midsummer Night's Dream from March 30 to April 3 at the University Center Little Theatre in Union, NJ. Following the on-campus run, the troupe will bring their production to schools in the region, including Arthur L. Johnson High School in Clark, West Essex Regional School in North Caldwell, Iselin Middle School, Bogota High School and Bloomfield Middle School.
